First time flying...

Recommended Posts

Yes, when I go to see my SO on October 10th it will be my first time ever flying. I'm not so much scared about the flying part, it's the security check-ins and I'm usually pretty awkward in places I've never been before. And since I'll be flying alone and stopping in Atlanta before going on to Vermont that's 2 chances for me to get confused and miss my flight.

In short, I'm freaking out very very much. :(

When I first went to visit my fiance, it was an international flight through LAX and I was really nervous. Luckily I'd flown before, but never internationally.

Don't worry about the security and crap. They'll tell you what to do. Just ask.

Oy, and here's a bit of my story, so you can laugh at how badly I handled my first huge flight and feel better when you don't screw up like this. lol

I was in LAX and looking everywhere for the international terminal. I found it after almost falling twice because I was so exhausted and nervous, and then when I got to the itnernational terminal, even though the check in I needed was RIGHT in front of my face, I couldn't seem to find it. So I asked everyone, all the airport workers and such. They all pointed to it and wouldnt walk me to it even when I asked over and over cuz it was just right friggin there XD I finally found it, then went upstairs to go eat, and fell down the friggin stairs on my way back down. Then I finally went through security and got my bags check in and so on and so forth, and when I got to the gate where my flight was supposed to be leaving from, I forgot that I was super early so there was bound to be another plane taking off from that gate before mine landed. So I freaked a little, got all panicky, until finally my flight showed up.

so ya see, even if you do screw up, it's really common. XD and its no biggie. You can easily find another flight. Just pray before hand babeh, that you'll meet nice people along the way who will help you if you get lost or confused. It'll be fine :)

Yeah, just look for someone calmly walking through the sea of chaos and ask them what to do or where to go. I help out folks all the time during layovers. Great way to meet people :)

Sorry you had such issues at LAX....finding TBIT (that's Tom Bradley Int'l Term.) can be a bit daunting if you don't normally fly through LAX. I fly UA, and their int'l flights always go out of T6 or T7, as do domestic, so no transfers...

Thanks for the sympethy. It really was tough. lol. And the last flight I made to Australia, I had to run from terminal 1 to Tom Bradley in 20 minutes, get checked in, and make it onto my flight. And as soon as I got to the check in, the woman checking me in was tsking and saying all slow and calmly, while being oto slow with my baggage "probably won't make it... you have to hurry.... should be at the gate by now". I'm normally really patient but I was so panicky I almost screamed.

Yes, welcome to LAX and TBIT. It's a culture uniquely its own. I especially enjoy customs and immigration :D

"Sir, where's your luggage?"

"This is all I have"

"You mean to say you traveled to and from Australia with a computer bag?"

"Yes, sir"

"What was your trip to Australia for?"

"Mileage run"

"What?"

It gets much better after that ;)
