The hidden meaning behind our dreams...

Recommended Posts

Every night....no, every time I go to sleep...even if it is a 15 minute nap, I have the most unusual, crazy dreams!! Sometimes they are a story, sometimes they are all jumbled up, but no matter what, I always have strange dreams.

I would love to learn more about what dreams mean, but everything I have tried to read about them seem not to help me at all. It's just confusing.

I think that if I could figure out the hidden meaning behind some of my strange dreams, it would help me figure out a lot about myself.

Have any of you researched dream meanings? I would love to learn more about what they supposedly mean.

Jamie,

There is so much info out there on dream interpretaion, it's astounding! There are many books, and I am sure even more web-sites. I try to not always go by the book though, you have to try to figure out what they mean to you first. I had a really messed up one recently that there was a dead body found on the property next to my ex-bf's house where they are building a new house. I woke up, thinking it had to be true. The next day I went over for dinner and right as I pulled up two cop cars were leaving....turned out the construction workers came across a few bones, not sure if it was human or not. That was a few weeks ago, haven't heard anything since. CREEEEEPPPY!

Write down your mood before you go to sleep. Then if you dream, write it down and study it with the mood you were feeling before you had the dream.

Lately me and my mother have been arguing. But lately I have these dreams that shes real nice to me.I think in these dreams shes telling me things that she cant express in reality.

I also have some reoccuring dreams.

One recurring dream is about this guy that I dated in high school. We didn't date that long but I was totally infatuated with him. But I haven't seen him in years. And I don't know why I dream about him every now and then. And every time I dream about him, we are always hooking up. I would like to know what that means.

Other recurring dream I have is about roller coaters and/or theme parks. A lot of my dreams contain roller coasters or amusement parks.

Another dream that I have the most often is that I am pregnant. I dream this at least 2 times a week. In my dreams I am always very pregnant..like 9 months..and either in labor or in the hospital having the baby. I really want to know what this dream means. It might be because I can't wait to have children and I can't wait to be pregnant. Maybe that's why I dream about it so much.

They say dreams are the truth about your hidden desires. So I don't know. Anyone care to comment on what they think my above dreams might mean?

Patty,

That's actually some REALLY good insight! I think I will give that a try myself. And as far as what you say about your mom, that could be very true! Maybe you could tell her about those dreams and what you think that they mean, it could lighten things up between you two.

i think that dreams are like mental garbage collection - your brain is clearing up things you'd been thinking about (consciously or not), storing them away, throwing some things out - sort of like cleaning up the room of your mind.

Patty, i think it's a good idea to mention these dreams to your mom, too!

Your absoloutely right. In my opinion dreams, are like a scrambled picture sort of like a puzzle.Ever hear the phone ring in your dream but wake up to find out its really ringing? Thats what happens to me.Your dream, I think has alot to do with what you are feeling, can be telling you something that you didnt see in reality.Dreaming is a good way to solve many problems.

Aside all the books and interpretations on the subject, the only thing we know for sure is that our dreams are our sub conscious trying to tell us something. We all have issues we try to resolve. They key, I believe is identifying those issues. And then finding the best possible remedy. I would say log your dreams and do it as specifically as possible with every detail that you can remember. Then try to find patterns or other commonalities and go from there.

I think Yes is close. Our minds store information and emotions and experiences and dreams are how our bodies take a mental "dump" so that we can continue with our daily lives. Just like the physical feces - everything is jumbled and mashed together in the dump!

That's my theory anyway! :D

Jamie31 WRITES: "They say dreams are the truth about your hidden desires."

What is your source of this information? This is a highly subjective area and no interpretation of any dream can ever be confirmed. There are many nonsensical dreams that could have no relation to hidden desires. Their meaning could be only speculation...and, most likely, they could have no meaning at all, in my opinion.

As for your dream of being pregnant, that is certainly no hidden desire since you've made the information available a number of times to some 100 million people on the World Wide Web.

  • 4 months later...

I had a very strange dream last night.

In the dream I was lying on my bed and then I seemed to be leaving my own body. I appeared to be floating upwards yet I could see myself lying on the bed. At the time I felt peaceful and strangely happy but then there was something there in the dream. I can't really describe it but what ever it was big and dark it wasn't a person but it was something I knew I needed to get away from and i suddenly flew right towards my body on the bed. Then I woke up.

Usually I don't remember my dreams but that was one f*cked up dream.

This above dream is not about the guy you knew in high school. I think it's about you wanting a relationship. Or it could mean something about your past. That's something your gonna have to figure out.

I think this dream is about the need for more love in your life. I'm not saying that it means have a baby, I'm saying that you don't get as much love in your life a you want for yourself and want more. I think the baby is a metaphor for that.

This above dream probably means you need to go out more and have a good time. Hang out with friends and enjoy yourself more.

Just remember, I'm not a professional at interpreting dreams, but get a second opinion about each. You might not want to, and you don't have too, but maybe you could go to a therapist to see if he/she can help make sense of your dreams. It your choice. Good luck!

A theme that reoccurs (sp) often in my dreams is if I'm ever at a large body of water the waves will ALWAYS grow and grow until they're tidal waves and I force myself awake. Another thing that happens a lot is my mouth will be full of something (it's been bubble gum, wax beads, mud, anything) and no matter how much of it I pull out more shows up and it makes it hard to talk to anyone. Every now and then I also have dreams where I lose a tooth or two. I'll feel that it's loose and it'll eventually pop out. Then there's the dreams where a guy friend turns against me and starts being really mean and hateful.

I have no idea what any of that stuff means. I've tried looking around but came up empty handed.

Last night I had a dream where this guy that used to follow me home from school came to my house and started harassing me again. My friends wouldn't help me so I literally had to beat him off of me then get out of there. He followed me and I finally took him in my hand (he suddenly reduced to, like, GI Joe size) and smashed his head against a counter till it popped off.

When dreaming we tend to believe it is reality, but when awake we know it was just a dream, we can distinguish it from reality. But dreams are a kind of reality, we cannot just dismiss them as though they do not exist, they do exist, dreaming is a real phenomenon, even though the dreams themselves are only an illusion. So perhaps dreaming can be considered a type of reality, if not actual reality.

The reality we experience when awake, 'actual reality', not being aware of any stage in between being asleep and being awake. But suppose this reality is just an illusion that only appears to be reality. After all, we think our dreams are real until we wake up. Could there be another - higher - level of consciousness that is 'the' reality? What test can we apply to prove or disprove this idea? The answer is that we cannot test this reality, we wouldn't know it wasn't the real thing until we 'woke up', as it were, and reached the real reality and were thus able to make the comparison.

Are there any grounds for believing that a higher level of consciousness exists, that there is a higher level of reality? Can reality have levels? If dreams can be considered a level of reality, then the answer must be yes, we can have levels of reality.

How about death? Could death be the gateway to the next level of consciousness, to the next level of reality? Could death be a kind of awakening? Is death the moment when we finally wake up to the truth? Wake up to the real world? This is becoming eerily close to how many religions describe death. Could this be the answer then?

Could what we are experiencing now be only one level of reality, of which there is another - higher level - the gateway to which is death? Could death be not the end of life, but the true beginning?

Many faiths would argue this is indeed the case. Perhaps they are right.
