So I was just wondering how long anyone has been in their LDR :)

My relationship so far is 5 months and 4 months of those were LDR.

How about you all?

My fiance and I have been in an LDR since our relationship started on December 31st 2006. We've known each other since December 2nd, 2006. We've been together for visits IRL for about a month and a half out of 23 months of love and such. :)

I've been in my LDR for 15 months now. It's only going to be LD for a few more weeks before he's here to stay.

It is a long time for sure! I'm not nervous at all. He's a friend of a friend, so we are in the same social circle. We have seen eachother about once every 6 to 8 weeks and we recently spent a month together on vacation. We have a totally solid relationship based on a foundation of friendship. I can't wait to be able to just call him up and say "hey, let's grab a coffee" or "come over, I have something heavy for you to move!" LOL

3 weeks?! Lucky thing. God knows even three weeks can be torture, but seriously, lucky thing!!! lol. I wish I had three weeks left. I might not even have three MONTHS until I visit him again because of money issues.

I'm so happy for you

How did you do it?

Communication, communication, communication. :bunny:

Honestly the first year was rough but we went in with some basic ground rules and we had been together for a while before he left so we did know each other.

At first there was a lot of stuff to work out - insecurities at times on both side - life interference at times. But we worked it out - WE are the priority no matter what basically. What each other needs thinks feels as well as our own needs, thoughts, and feelings are what is most important. Every thing else and every one else is secondary.

We had to get really good at clearly expressing ourselves (no beating around the bush about anything including anger) because it is VERY expensive to talk and he doesn't have a computer there.

2 years now..and stronger than ever!!!!

He told me this weekend that every time he sees me (once a month or so..considering we are 600 miles apart) that he loves me more and more. I feel like the luckiest girl... and I know it is only temporary. :) A few more months till I graduate from UVA, then I think it is back to MI! :)

Congrats! I cant wait for the day 2 yrs later when i'll be in your shoes. Im 2 weeks into an LDR with my bf of 6 mths... so far everything is going pretty gd.. till the ph bill arrives of course. LOL. But kudos to Skype! Though his internet connection sucks big time and we get cut off pretty often.. but i still count my blessings.

He told me to wait for him. 2 yrs. And he'll be back. Even though his departure came pretty suddenly (he was called home by his dad to help out in the family business), LDR actually set our relationship in a more concrete direction. I used to not think too much about us. Lead each day as it is. But now with LDR, we talked things through, decided where our relationship is heading towards and assured each other of wanting to be with the other. Not quite what i thought our relationship will progress to, but thus far, its good.

Still feel fears, still feel apprehensive from time to time. But its either we make it or flunk it. We certainly want to make it work. =) Hang in there, pals. We can never be sure where the future lead us, but we can do our best to work towards what we want. Provided it works both ways of course! =)

The time really flies! :) And as you said... my LDR sent my relationship into something more solidified. Now we have all these plans for next year after I graduate. You and your SO will be able to survive!!! :) Just remember trust and communication are key.

It is normal to feel those fears... but I am so happy to hear you both want to make it work! But being far apart also gives us our own opportunities to grow and realize what we truly want.

Thanks for sharing your story! I am sure it will all work out!!!

11 months together... 3 months as a LDR. Two visits during those 3 months and tons of phone calls.

We are planning a holiday celebration get-together, which we'll combine with our 1-year anniversary and anything else we can come up with to celebrate. :)

I only had to deal with LDR for a month, my girl's finally coming home tomorrow, I'm so excited! She just went on vacation to see her dad in Japan :) The distance made our relationship stronger...

You guys hold on to what you have, love is awesome. When you find it, regardless of how difficult it is being apart, don't let go of it. I sound so in love hahaha, well I am :)

6 years! We see each other once or twice a year.

How do you all have the strength to go on with these LDR? I've had the opportunity to get involved in a LDR with a few girls over the past 5 or so months, but after a month or so I just run out of steam and need the physical contact. Good on you guys for having this level of devotion, I guess I must be a lazy SOB!
