Just take a close-up shot and nobody will be able to tell where it is...except, oops you already told. Here's my tattoo story: As most of you regulars know, my stepson was killed in a motorcycle accident almost four years ago when he had just turned 21. He had just come home from the Marines and he had gotten a tattoo just before going in. His younger brother had just left for Marine Corps boot camp and had said that when he got home he was going to get a tattoo also. Mike had always bugged us (half-jokingly because he didn't think we'd do it) that we all needed to get tattoos together...me, my husband, my son, my other stepson and himself. We always said, yeah okay, maybe someday. The day after Mike's funeral my son and stepson came to us and announced that they were going to go get tattoos in Mike's honor, and without even hesitating my husband and I decided we would like to do the same thing. So we all went as a family. John (Mike's brother) took along a picture of Mike's tattoo and got the exact same one in the exact same place. Jason got a small Superman emblem (they used to call Mike little Superman because he was so strong and athletic) with the date of Mike's birth and death. My husband got an American Eagle with Mike's name beneath. And I designed my own, a heart-shaped garland of five flowers, one for each member of our family. I put it on my left hip and it's only seen if I want it to be seen. I've never regretted doing it and I don't think I ever will. It's very pretty and it reminds me of Mike everytime I see it. Ha, haa, haa, haa, haa. I had a difficult enough of a time trying to get a picture of myself as my avatar. I almost came on-line here and created a post titled......"who's stupid idea was this picture avatar thing anyways?" ziggue Posted September 16, 2003 Share Posted September 16, 2003 I think Tattoos a pretty sexy. Just as long as you don't over do it! I am thinking of getting a small one done somewhere. I don't like writing. I would never get something written on my body for life. Just a symbol of something that means a lot to me or a pretty feminime design. That would look good on a girl's body. I would put it somewhere where it isn't visible either for the reason that you will forget it's there half the time and only certain people will get to see it! And in no way am I interested in ever having another one done, I would rather give birth again than get another tatoo. IT HURT LIKE HECK! I'm just a big wimp too I suppose...... But I am proud to say that I designed my tatoo, I do caligraphy; so my tatoo is actually in my own hand-writing and has a few other of my personal "trade-marks" so when people see my tatoo and if they know me intimately they can easily see that I designed my own tatoo. quankanne Posted September 16, 2003 Share Posted September 16, 2003 a girl I know had a white scar on her hip left from a childhood accident, so several years ago, she got the tattoo artist to incorporate it into a design of the Pink Floyd prism. It sounded pretty neat from the description, especially knowing that she was able to take a flaw and make it look good. So, look out stretch marks! Link to post Share on other sites

It took about an hour and a half. The first ten minutes were the most painful...then you get over the shock of how painful it is and resign yourself to the fact that it's going to be that way until the end. I think the fact that I was doing it for Mike made a difference also. I kept thinking that he was looking down and smiling and getting a kick out of the whole thing. And I was still kind of in a daze from the grief so my mind and body were a little numb, if that makes sense. I think if I were to get one now it would probably hurt a lot more. But they do say a lot about a person...such as why are they so unhappy about themselves and their body that they would choose to mark it up with permanent markings? The name was given to me by one of my 'true loves" and it's special to me also. It's not for everyone to see, only my lover! and I'm still not taking a picture of it! That would mean I'd have tattoos all over the place - eek! BTW: Mine is actually much clearer than it looks in the picture. When I shrank the pic down for the avatar it lost a lot of the sharpness.
