I received a voicemail today from an acquaintace. I've seen her here and there a few times a year for about 10 years. Her H works for my H and they are recently married.

The last time I saw her she was working as a masseuse in the salon that I get my hair done at. I chatted with her for a few minutes, she asked me where I had massages done and I told her about my favorite dayspa and who I use regularly. Turns out they went to school together. I actually mentioned her to the girl who I used and she said she was pretty good.

Anyway, this voicemail said that she had moved to a spa in a very nice hotel and would like to give me a complementary massage, to call the front desk and schedule it and to mention that it was complementary.

I'm not terribly comfortable with the idea of having a massage by an acquaintance. Heck, I've got a whole day scheduled tomorrow at my own spa. I would do it though not to be rude, but the issue is, it is an inconventient location and not somewhere I want to go for relaxation unless I made a day of it or was staying at the hotel.

As much as I would like to support her especially since her husband works for mine and I have know him for 15 years or so I know that I won't be a return customer for her. I LIKE everyone at the place I go, its comfortable, and not a place I mind walking out of looking like I've been hit by a ton of bricks. The only number she gave was the spa number, I do have their home number somewhere. How do I turn her down? Should I suck it up and go, then go atleast once more as a paying client?

Arrggg! I hate being put in this position.

Should I suck it up and go,

Since you appear to be the pampered type

Heck, I've got a whole day scheduled tomorrow at my own spa.

you don't need even more relaxation. Hey, if you get any more relaxed, then something important may just drop off.

Just say thanks, but no thanks. "I like being serviced by my regular person, in the best location for me. Your spot is a little difficult for me to reach."

I think saying this wouldn't be out of order. I wouldn't want a friend giving me a massage or any spa treatment unless it was only a manicure. It would be a situation of too close for comfort.

By the way, what's an acquaintace? Since it finishes in "ace," I can only assume that she's very good at what she does.
