I want to lose 15-20 lbs fast

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know the quickest way to lose weight? I've been eating healthier/dieting for the last 2-3 months, and I've seen a little improvement. Plus I also just started working out at a YMCA this week... should I just give it time or is there something else I could be doing? My boyfriend nags me about not eating all day until supper, but since I've been dieting I just don't feel like eating. But then I also get these horrible urges to eat and eat and eat and it frustrates me because in highschool I could eat two Double Whoppers w/ cheese, with a ****-load of mayo, lettuce, onions, ketchup, and some ranch (in one sitting, I used to eat ALL THE TIME) and I had no problem at all staying in shape and playing basketball. But now that I'm in college and I'm not as active, I can't eat that anymore :( and I haven't eaten any char-broiled beef product since I started dieting 2-3 months ago, so I'm dying to have one lol :p

Any help?

P.S.- I'm not like fat or anything lol I just want my nice old athletic figure back :)

First, there are no safe and QUICK ways to shed bodyfat. It takes time. A woman looking to drop 20lbs would probably do so at about 1lb per week. Anything faster will lead to an unfavorable ratio of bodyfat loss to muscle/organ tissue loss. Note that WEIGHT loss may be greater, but our concern is FAT loss.

There are two aspects to an effective fatloss system: dietary modification and proper strength training (see sticky thread about exercise). Dietary modification means 4-6 small meals a day that result in a moderate caloric deficit. This means you eat approximately 500 calories less per day than your baseline metabolic needs. That will cause a net change of 3500 calories per week, which is approximately the same amount as in a single pound of bodyfat. Proper strength training is paramount to ensure those 500 calories per day aren't being consumed out of muscle mass. There will ALWAYS be some degree of muscle tissue loss, but it can be largely mitigated to a level that is not significant.

Thats what I've been trying to do, but its so slow, I just feel like its going nowhere. Its so hard to eat 4-6 small meals a day when I'm not hungry anymore. Why make myself eat when I'm not hungry? I don't know...

Ok, I guess someone decided they would take away my reply to you.....WTF??? I think my advice is as valid as any others.

Anyway, like I said before, the only quick way I know to lose weight is to take diet pills. Most of them are bullcrap, but I have found one that works wonders. The first month I was on them last summer I lost 13 lbs. All together I lost about 30 lbs in 3 months. They really work. But they are prescription, so you'd have to go to the doc to get them. Other than that, I don't know of a really quick way to lose it.

Ok, I guess we aren't "allowed" to use drug names among the many things we aren't "allowed" to do, so if you want to know which specific drug I am talking about, PM me and I'll tell ya.

Seeing as how such prescriptions are only given to those who are significantly overweight, I have to wonder how you acquired them.

Nonetheless, pharmaceutical solutions of this nature are NEVER healthy nor ultimately effective. Lifestyle change is necessary, not irresponsible temporary medication.

I did not delete your previous post.

The drug you named above which was deleted is an appetite suppresant and the poster (Hoopsy32) has very clearly stated she does not have an appetite. She even talks about how difficult it is for her to eat because she has no hunger. I hope as a nurse you will not recommend appetite suppresants to people who have no appetite. I strongly urge Hoopsy32 to pay attention to Ryan's advice on this subject. He knows what he's talking about.

I think it's best not to depend on drugs to lose weight unless all else fails and you are well supervised by a physician.

Ryan: Well, I am not significantly overweight, but I got them. I guess it just depends on the doc. I read somewhere that you have to have a BMI of at least 27 to get them, and mine is below that, so I don't know. I guess it depends on the doc you go to.

Tony: Well, all I am not going to debate anyone about this drug again, because we already did that. All I am saying is IT WORKED FOR ME!!

And if the original poster is interested in it, she can give me a PM!!!! If not, that'll work too.

I'm not trying to debate you. I'm merely telling you you don't recommend an appetite suppresant to somebody who has no appetite. Did you read the prior posts? I am very, very happy the pills worked for you...and probably did because you DID have an appetite.

Doctors give pills for all kinds of things, quickly and often without a lot of thought. They know that many patients don't want to hear the truth about how to lose weight and would much prefer a pill for that and most everything else. Members of the medical community are many times way too eager to offer up solutions that are to be ingested rather than lifestyle changes. The ONLY diet that will ever work on a continued basis throughout life is to consume fewer calories than you burn. Plain and simple. Of course, a balanced diet is part of that. Pills aren't.

I wish there was a pill to bring gas prices down!!!

I suspect your knowledge along with your methods are both lacking in the area of fitness. I already addressed what this substance is in a prior thread. Recommending such an approach is tantamount to malpractice.

So are you all just saying that I should just wait and give it more time?

Keep going to the gym...keep your body in motion...don't spend lots of hours motionless in front of the computers. Computers, television, automobiles, etc. have all contributed to the current obesity epidemic. Ryan has clearly outlined above what it will take for you to lose one pound per week. If you don't, there is something wrong and you should see an endocrinologist. Are you taking any other prescription medications that may slow your metabolism?

If you continue brisk exercise everyday and consume no more than 1500 to 2000 calories per day, the pounds should melt off. Again, don't try to lose too quickly.

Ok,Tony! I think we get the message! lol

I would like to advise to everyone not to ever take a drug without your doctors supervision.I once had to take a type of medicine that were to treat my headaches but were an appetite depressent. And the nearologist told me to try to maintain my weight. Cause he told me that I would loose alot of weight. The next visit to my doctor,I was under weight and only weighed 82 pounds. Not cause I needed it but I had a wacky nearologist that did not know what he was doing and Im glad I got him changed to someone Im more comfortable with. But if you dont need to take it dont, unless supervised by your doctor.I just wanted to pint that out, cause thats what happened to me.Just be careful.

This year when I went back after I got off that other medicine,Ive gained 25 pounds. My doctor said Im right where Im suppose to be for my height.

Bingo! Lots of quacks out there. One of them gave me a diet drug in 1997, even though I only needed to lose about 25-30 pounds. I lost 30 pounds in 3 months...and nearly lost my life! Had I had someone (like me) to tell me about the dangers ahead of time, I would have NEVER taken my chances. It's a damn shame some people don't listen to others who have "been there, done that" and really DO know what they're talking about.

That is a BIG mistake. Reports show that the body goes into 'conserve calories' mode when it is starved. Brain says to body 'hey, no food is coming in - better start storing fat to keep us alive'. Worst possible thing anybody can do when dieting is to not eat. You have to eat, just eat less.

Whether or not you feel hungry, your body needs fuel to work properly. If you starve it, you'll end up with problems. You don't have to eat a lot, but you do have to eat.

There are many ways to lose weight quickly. Thing is you WILL put it back on again once normality is restored. I say this so often to weight obsessed friends:

I have done this twice so far in my life, If you eat as little as possible (roughly) 500-1000 calories a day and put in 2 or more hours of some kind of exercise each day you will lose. I did it in about 2-3 weeks. My determination of getting slimmer was what got me through, having a goal date of how long your going to do this helps. I'm in the middle of doing it again. At first I did it slower and since June I've lost 25 pounds and now the month of July and August I'm determined to lost at least that and trying for more. But my goal is 25 since I was able to do it before in 2 months. Just make sure you get enough sleep, take vitamin pills. If you in pain from any activity then stop, tired then take a rest but keep going. Hope this helps a bit.

I'm one of those weight obsessed people, and I hate it! I weigh myself at least 10 times a day, and I freak out over any weight put on at all... even though its normal after eating and drinking a lot. But, as a weight obsessed person, I know its not healthy to lose a lot of weight in a short period of time. Its dangerous!

The best way to lose weight at keep it off would be to eat small meals, and keep a balanced diet. Don't cut anything out! Not even carbs! Seriously, a well balanced diet will do the trick. Along with exercize of course. I know you've all heard it a million times too!!

A few of the things I have done in the past few months have helped. Since I can't live without soda, I made the swicth to diet-- now I can't fathom drinking regular. I try not to eat at least 3 hours before bed time. I have cut out a lot of sugar in my diet, and fast food. If my body is asking for something (theres a difference between asking and wanting), I'll give my body what it wants. You can totally tell too.

Good luck!!! By the way, whats a stone? :o
