Maybe attract is too powerful a word, maybe sooth. My bedroom isn't exactly grand central station and I'm certainly not suggesting it's color scheme would attract women that were otherwise uninterested in me.

I'm redoing my bedroom, the furnishings are black and I can come up with some pretty BOLD wall and carpet colors. But I'd like for it to be an inviting room for my female visitors. It's MY place and wouldn't want to feminize it, just be more inviting.

I can think of two goals, either a soothing room or a "sexy" room. Perhaps there is a following for a "sexy" room of red and black (if that's how a sexy room is made?)but I think it might come out sleezy.

Or is a soothing room or other a better way to go. How?

Your thoughts are appreciated, Thank You.

Warm, Mediterranean colors with a dash of jade (green) or royal blue.

My suggestion:

Hotel chic... very masculine bedroom...

Grey flannel (charcoal), different tones of taupe... browns, grey and splashes of white (lamps, sheets) or even light green or steel blue.

DON'T use red, or bright colours.. that would make it look cheap and sleazy. Be modern and masculine, uncluttered very sleek room...

That would be sexy.. :)

I agree with this. Tan/brown and black or grey and black would be very sophisticated and soothing. If you like red, you can get some red accent pieces or a painting/photograph with splashes of brighter color, but I'd not paint the walls red...

I like Lizzie's idea of keeping it all very clean and neutral colors. That's probably your best bet.

I happen to find mustard colors and pine needle greens very warm and welcoming. Tan and beige while very natural to me are simply to plain. I would have a little more fun with color on the walls and stick to simple classic bedding and rugs. Perhaps a few funky bold prints on the walls, or just a little something that captures your personal style. Have fun.:)

With paint, go for a warm color pallette as opposed to cool. Warm tones like gold and peachish warm up skin tones. And hopefully you will be seeing some skin so....Also, pay more attention to lighting than anything else. Choose lighting (bulbs, shades, and locations) that cast a soft glow and again, reflect warmly on the skin.

Never decorate to suit anyone else. Decorate to suit yourself since you're the one who has to live in this and it's an extension of your personality. Just make certain it's tastefully done. Tacky or sleezy is so not attractive.

Yeah I agree with TBF do it for yourself.

Personally, I love red but wouldn't use it in my home as a room color. I also like rich warm tones. I have a deep warm gold on my walls with a comfortor that is predominately, deep red, gold, and deep brown. Years ago when I worked nights I had deep forrest green walls which worked well at the time.

I agree with 2sure, about the lighting being very important. I'm a lover of lamp light, I hate bright over heads. All of our overheads, cans and chandeliers included have dimmers. Some interesting art on the wall, no clutter, and just maybe.... a mirror on the ceiling! j/k:p

Thanks everyone for the excellent ideas.

I have the sleek black furniture already. Leaning toward a Greyish carpet. Still not sure about the wall color but it will be within the above suggestions. I was entirely overlooking the lighting issue, but not anymore thank you.

Why a sexy room ?.. you mean to bed them in ?

How about a sexy living room first.. that is where the romance starts and in most cases finishes .. at least in my dating career that is.. either that or it started and finished at their house

I can't think of a woman that cared what my bedroom looked like..

Red and black I would think your a pimp (lol) but since you have black furniture you could go with a tan/mocha or beige color for the walls. Or even a rich/deep purple.

Benjamin Moores website has a function on there where you can paint a room online and it gives some really good ideas. HGTV's website is helpful too.

Animal print and a round rotating bed. You can never have enough mirrors, or leather (unless you are trying to nail a peta lady).

YEAH ...BABY!!!

...just kidding.

If you are uncertain then perhaps visit a library and check out some interior design books and look through and emulate what appeals to your personal sense of style.

That's a good point. My Living room is of sleek style but it's where all my visitors (ones I don't intend to seduce) ...er..visit.

The Bedroom on the other hand is strictly for special ladies (and me of course.)

I visited the library often during the ancient pre net days.

For me personally, I like warm, dark, rich colors for a bedroom. Perhaps not on every wall, but maybe a lighter color on three walls and an accent wall in a darker tone? While dark walls are seductive at night, with the right lighting, you have to live there, too, and dark walls are not neccessarily fantastic in the harsh light of day.

The first things that come to mind when I think "seductive" are:

chocolate

velvet (caveat- not as a bed fabric, but just the texture I think is scintillating.)

candles

maybe a dark tan on the walls with a rich chocolate accent, either on the trim or on an accent wall?

Honestly, though, I would personally be wowed by a guy who kept the place clean, cared enough to hang some (seductive?) art on the walls (prints by Patrick Nagel or Georgia O'Keeffe come to mind) and made his bed. Candles and painted walls! That's going the extra mile :)

Taste is such a personal thing, it's really hard to say.

a dark bedroom with two or three strategically placed candles seems to work well for me...

Grey and black is passé. Earth tones with black, are a more modern look.

I was thinking high thread count cotton sheets or maybe satin (????) for pleasing texture.

Definately clean! but an O'Keeffe pic of a dried animal skull isn't too sexy is it?;)

Hehe... hmm, satin sheets? Too slippery and slide-y in real life. In wintertime flannel is very snuggly, if overly warm.

As for O'Keeffe, I was thinking more her flowers... They seem very suggestive to me.:p

Totally agree.

Personally, I like chocolate brown in a man's bedroom.

Chocolate brown is nice, with some lighter accents. Men's bedrooms should be kept minimal, no fuss or frills. Just clean, spartan, masculine lines.

I went with sort of a steele grey wall and chocolate brown combo. Hard to describe but I have had numerous compliments from the ladies:D (well, the few that have seen it:p) anyway I got some Ideas from this place. http://www.westelm.com/online/store/HomePage?storeId=17001&catalogId=17002&viewSetCode=E If you can afford it great but its a good site for Ideas nonetheless.

I work in an industry where color can make or break a deal. Custom order type stuff. I know that red is a love it or hate it kinda thing. Its said that it can envoce feelings of tension or anger. I do however know someone that has a real cool home office painted in red with big leather chairs and dark wood. Works good there but I dunnno about the bedroom...that is unless your into angry sex.
