jgaz3124
Has anyone on here lost weight by walking alot? I love to walk around my neighborhood alot at night as it gives me time to think about the things in my life. I always feel better after the walk. It has been awhile since I have been walking around the neighborhood. I have just gotten out of a relationship and I have started walking again and I love it. The thing is I gained about 20lbs in this relationship that I want to lose and although I do plan to go to the gym sometimes, I really cannot stay motivated at the gym. So I was wondering if you can lose some weight by just walking around a nieghborhood?
Trialbyfire
If your current lifestyle is very sedentary, yes, you can lose weight by walking. It doesn't matter where you're walking just the pace you keep. If the calories you intake are less than you burn, you're going to lose weight, even by breathing!

D-Lish
Hell yeah! Walk it up! If your calorie intake doesn't change, but you exercise more... you'll lose weight.
quankanne
walking is a good low-impact exercise, and the nice thing is that you can change the scenery and do it wherever you are. I think the key to weight loss is to walk briskly, rather than sedately.
carhill
We usually walk four avenues (1/4 mile apart out here in the country) in a half-hour. Any faster and my wife will bug out. My mom used to walk around 2 miles an hour (twice as fast) back before her stroke. She was in great shape for an 80 year old

Ariadne
Yes, You can lose lots of weight just walking. But you have to do it every single day, fast, for at least an hour, and you have to keep a low cal diet.
youngandhopeful
Try speeding up the weight loss, by doing other active activities you find fun. Ive started going for quick jogs each night. I don't take my phone or anything else, just my house keys. The time alone without contact with people helps me keep stress free, and time to reflect on things in my life. A "balanced" diet will help too, although i think that goes without saying these days
EAJuggalo
A few years ago I lost 50 pounds in two months by starting a new job that had me walking around a lot. Nothing else changed just the 3 or 4 miles a night I would be walking.

spookie
You probably could, all other things being equal. Personally, what helps me stay motivated at the gym... is not viewing it as a chore. The gym I go to is the on at work, and I go when there's no one else there so I can blast the music and do whatever the heck I want. That makes it fun; in fact, working out is now one of my faves part of the day.
baker23
Walking is excellent for weight loss; experts say that by walking you burn fewer calories than running, but the calories you burn are fat calories, and it stops sugar cravings. Good luck on ypur weight loss journey. Keep us posted.
BentSpine
A few years ago I lost 50 pounds in two months by starting a new job that had me walking around a lot. Nothing else changed just the 3 or 4 miles a night I would be walking. You must have walked to work, from california. Or walked briskly to the liposuction. Seriously EAJuggalo, whatever you lost, it wasn't all fat. To burn a pound of fat it requires roughly 3500 kilocalorie intake deficit. Even if you didn't eat anything you daily expend about 1800 kilocalories which wouldn't be enough. OP, what happens if you lose weight by walking, will you want to keep walking when the payoff of future improvements disappear? Because once you stop walking, you'll gain the weight back. Or instead of exercising, would you do better to adjust your relationship with food ?
