Completely Inexperienced!

Hi everyone!

I'm a 20 year-old male college student. I'm a bit quiet and very passive. I don't make the greatest first impression. I come off as someone likely to be a conservative, anti-drinking, probably awkward, maybe kinda un-confident person. None of those things really come very close to describing me. Most people who know me like me a lot, because I keep a really positive attitude about just about everything and because I'm funny (not necessarily the good/attractive kind of funny--more like I have different mannerisms from a lot of people and that I make outlandish [but very true] comments, especially when drunk. I can laugh at myself, though).

I have never been in a serious relationship. Mostly this has been because I've been really busy and have had few female friends. People who don't know me suggested that this is because of a lack of confidence, but my good friends would agree that it had more to do with me not trying than anything.

This year, I'm abroad and the majority of my close friends are female. The girls studying with me declared that I will marry before anyone else in our group.

It is now that I am realizing that I truly do lack the confidence that I need to initiate a relationship. Justifiably so, I think, as I do have no idea what I am doing.

Here is one of the awkward situations I'm in.

There are 4 of us who are quite good friends. 2 guys/2 girls. Lets call the guy Carlos and the girls Annie and Bridget--they're both really cute. Annie and Carlos had a little thing going for the last 2 months, up until last weekend. I kind of liked Bridget but didn't try anything. All of the sudden Carlos switched to Bridget and they've slept together already (more than he ever did with Annie). I really, really like Annie but I don't even know what do do. Two or three days ago, she was fairly clearly hitting on me, but we were drinking and as she did it, someone yelled to "cut her off." (It's kind of offensive that the fact that she was flirting with me signaled to everyone that she was drunk, but w/e). We did make plans that night to hang out today (confirmed yesterday) but we need to reschedule because the weather is bad. We have plans to hang out next week to. Anyhow, that same night, we were dancing and I was really awkward. She was dancing in front of me, clearly wanting me to grab her to dance, but for some reason, I did not. After probably 10 minutes she grabed my hands and we danced for one song, but I have no idea what I am doing so it was probably kinda dull for her. It was far less physical than most peoples dances too. Last night people were joking that there was a restaurant that would be good to go on a date to, and she said (jokingly) "who wants to go on a date with me there?" she repeated the question 3 times. I said nothing. All of that might not seem like much but here is the weird thing. my best friend here is a girl who has a boyfriend. she told me that she dreamt that we went on a date together and that Annie got super-mad about it. That leads me believe that she might, from a female perspective think that there might be something possible.

Here's the rub though. That is all irrelavent because I know that I would screw it up anyways because:

1) I can't read the signs (when they happen to other people I can, but to me no) so I wouldn't know if she were attracted to me.

2) Take the dancing for example, I always pull back (out of fear, perhaps) when opportunities present themselves

3) I'm inexperienced very obviously, and what girl wants to teach a guy everything? (from basically how a relationship works to how to kiss well, etc.)

What I need advice on is how to get over those issues and perhaps how to handle the situation that I am in!

Thanks a lot!

haha, yea you cant read the signs alright. Clearly she wants you well she at least wants to get closer to you. Girls love guys who dance! you dont have to be chris brown or anything but as long as you dance. I love to dance and it pulls in a lot of chicks. Anyway, just talk to her and ask her to hang out sometime depending on her answer it can go further or it can end right there.
