You wouldn't think it's rude for them to go to the bathroom and stay in there for 10 minutes because they are texting someone? And it's not an emergency text either, just bull**** texting.

Would this irritate you? What would you do if you're friend were to do this?

My friend 31 years old btw, not some little teenager.

Texting in the presence of company of any kind is just plain rude...unless it's am emergency. When people text or use their cell phones when they are with others sends the message that they would rather be elsewhere, be with different people or simply that other things are much more important than their company.

Rude, rude, rude....and lots of people do it and think nothing of it.

It's odd but as usual nothing to get your panties into a bunch over. But you will so enjoy your weird ramblings.

I work in a store, and if a customer is busy chatting on a mobile 'phone, or texting whilst I'm trying to serve them, I won't serve them. I'll just sit and wait until they've finished, or serve someone else.........

a lot of stores around here have signs up saying We'll be happy to help when you are done chatting on your cell phone.

or please take cell phone conversations outside.

Maybe you invade her privacy and she needs to escape into the bathroom?

I mean you've said before how nosy you are paying attention to what your neighbors are doing and stuff.

Maybe you invade her space even though you're not trying to but maybe you just do.

I'm sorry, but if someone were at my home, I would assume (silly me!) that they were there to visit - with ME.

I do think it's rude. It's like having a conversation with someone else while you're in the room, but whispering so you can't hear. If your friend wants to include someone else in the visit, she/he should ask you if they can invite a friend over that you might enjoy meeting. That way, you can ALL join in the conversation.

Just saw a car drive past.... four people + driver....

4 people all on their own mobile phones... all talking to someone else - ANYone else BUT the people with them!!

This is insane....

I vote we delete anything on our mobile phones and just use them for emergency numbers!

My parents don't have a TV or a computer.

The only numbers my mother has on her mobile phone are her house, and her 3 kids (my 2 bro's and me.....)

I'm thinking of doing the same!

Well, we live in the era of mobile technology so what can you do about it? As far as the individual is concerned - I wouldn't sweat it. Folks are all into technology these days, some into programming, networking (and they can do all kind of neat things), satellite technology etc its no suprise that these things are involved in our regular schedule.

First of all I hate to text myself. It does not bother me if someone excuses themselves to take a call or even texts in my presence. I can't imagine why someone would have to step away to text as Iwould never know what they are texting.

The only calls I usually except if I am doing ANYTHING... are my H's and kids. Usually I'll let the phone go to VM and return the call later. I don't feel compelled to answer it just because it rings. MY H goes nuts when I don't answer it! He never doesn't answer his phone, infact if he's walked away from it and I tell him he missed a call, he's ticky that I didn't answer it.

I LOVE cell, phones because they make life and parenting older kids so much easier and safer, but I don't feel attatched to mine!

Yes, it would irritate me. It's rude. It's inconsiderate. And the fact that she HID in the bathroom to do it, means she KNOWS she's being rude and inconsiderate. I'd say so, if it's a friend of mine. I've done so before, when they do it at the table or when we're out somewhere.

But...how do you know she's texting in there?

My MM from work.. text me sometimes for an whole evening while he has family over.. or even when his wife is sitting in the same room..

I remember they had some arguments about it.. he gets worst when he gets a little drunk.. then it turns into dirty 'text' messages..

Well, it depends. If there's a person they are very interested in, 10 minutes is OK to get it out of their systema dn get a reply from them ASAP. If it's just BS that can wait and it goes on forever, I'd think they don't enjoy my company too much. I duno why, but it'd hurt me more from a male friend than a female one.
