What if i fail out of college?!?!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

BIG BIG problem. I just took a test which will determine if i fail or stay in college. I tried my best on this test too. Put in hours and hours of studying, but i feel that i did terrible.

As i sit here with my heart pounding faster than ever and my hands shaking as i pace myself back and forth in my room. I've been thinking of what will happen to my life if i did fail out of college.

I am the oldest and I have one brother. My parents really want me to get a Bachelors and i promised them that i would get one. Everytime they hear me talk about how closer i am to getting that bachelors i can see that they are really proud of me and their eyes sparkle. I owe my parents so much. They are working so hard to put food on the table and send me off to college. And i feel that i must deliver or i am nothing but a failure.

You guys might be thinking that i should stop partying and start studying. I must say that this semester i have only partied 4 times because i really wanted to do well in school. I put in hours of studying for each classes and ended up with B's. But because of my recent F's i need an A on this test so i can stay in college.

I cant even begin to imagine what my parents will say if i get kicked out of college. The look on their faces and just how disappointed they will be. I cant bare to take that. It's gotten to the point where im thinking about just commiting suicide (But i prolly wont, coz i might fail at that also)

what the hell can i do if i do fail out of college? is my life over? im just so anxious right now and any advice/help would be very helpful

No.

You re-apply and ask how to pass the test. or you look for further education elsewhere.

Jeesh, you are so young, the world is full of opportunity!

THis one and only chance, is anything but that!

You have the world at your feet!

Tried talking to your parents about how under pressure you feel?

I'm sure they'd be a lot more supportive and sympathetic than you think!!

Just remember that college is not necessary to make it in this life. Granted it's pretty close to a necessity if you want to pursue certain career paths, but there are always alternatives.

Failing college does not mean you are a failure, at most it means that your talents lie elsewhere.

Cheers,

D.

are you sure you're not stressing out over something that's really as not a big an issue as you've made it out to be?

because the only way you are going to be kicked out of school is if you're on academic probation and/or in jeopardy of losing scholarship funds because of a low GPA. From what I remember, one test doesn't make or break a college career; if you fail a class, you can always take it over in the future.

When you studied you received B's. Good!

Were you NOT studying when you received the F's?

Do your parents know that you have previously received F's?

My reason for asking is this:

You have apparently recently come up with the realization that receiving your degree requires study. B's are good grades.

OR - you had a period when you were making bad decisions, received F's, and that period is now over.

Everything can turn out ok here. Obviously, you have what it takes!

In the worse case scenerio, you may have to change schools. You will continue to study, receive As and Bs and your degree.

Your parents will get what they want - which ultimately is for you to be happy and successful.

Yes, failing out of college would suck but if you can stay focused, you'll be fine. Think about how you need to adjust your environment to work for your study habits - posture, lighting, rest, minimal level of background noise (or none at all) and lastly attitude. Try to leverage some emotional motivation to push you through.

Committing suicide? If you think about doing that, you should probably seeks some counselling. This is serious business and an issue that's going to require some outside help.

Best of luck to you! Stay motivated! :)

I agree with what others have posted. That's a lot to carry around on your shoulders. As the oldest, its likely you've got the added pressure to set a good example for your younger brother.

Sometimes parents forget that more than anything, their kid just wants to know he's still gonna be accepted and loved when he makes mistakes. Especially when he royally screws up. They sometimes continue to forget, even after that kid has grown into a responsible young man.

Although it may not be the easiest thing to believe at this moment, not living up to your parents' expectations does not make you a failure.

Pacman,

Of course we want to make our parents proud of us...and it is noble that you are so intent on living up to THEIR dreams for you.

But. It is as important that you are working towards your own noblest dreams and highest aspirations for yourself...the life that will make YOU happiest. For most parents, that is what they really want for us, so, if what will make you happiest is different than what they currently think will do that, you may want to consider letting them in on your own dreams and desires.

Even if they do initially feel 'whatever', it is unlikely that you will lose their love and affection...and they may pleasantly surprise you by supporting you in your own endeavours much sooner than you anticipate.

Best of luck in life...YOUR life...how you want and create it :bunny: :bunny:

I highly recommend becoming a permanent fixture in your Dean's office. If you are failing on certain subjects, it's probably an indication that you should switch majors. I was given the boot from my University on my second sophomore year :D, but they let me back in after I proved my intentions through a 3.5+ GPA at a local city college (It isn't that hard to do, community colleges are like Highschool). Sometimes the Dean may even bend the rules for you, if you just barely missed the overall GPA requirements.

Hey guys,

a little update on my situation.

Well i passed the test with flying colours .

I was on academic probation with a 1.7GPA. The reason for this was I was a transfer student and although i had a GPA of 3.3 in my other university it didn't transfer over. I was a junior when i transfered over and had to take some really hard classes. I ended up getting C average until i took biochemistry and got a D which brough my GPA down and leading me to academic probation.

While i was studying for my last final i guess panic set in and instead of concentrating studying all what "What if's" scenarios started running through my caffienated induced brain, which lead me to post on the forums.

I was just so worried that night and panic really set in. And i really want to thank you guys for the advice. Reading them really helped me a lot.

And i got a 98/100 on the final which got me an A for the semester. Also got straight A's
