daisydufas22
Okay, was asked at work whether looks really matter…….I stated yes because I know that people who are attractive do get treated better: better service, more employable and so forth. Now I am NOT saying I am one of those fortunate people blessed with good looks but I am just saying that is how life is! I then went on to say on the flip-side, other people can be very jealous of attractive people and act in a horrible manner. One of my friends is gorgeous and she receives quite a bit of this treatment. Anyway, this caused people at work to believe I am ‘shallow’…… something I just laugh at! Hence, these events have prompted me to ask 2 questions: 1. Do you think attractive people are treated better/differently in society? 2. What would you chose: looks or brains? Taramere
1. Do you think attractive people are treated better/differently in society? 2. What would you chose: looks or brains? 1. I think that how people are treated in society has less to do with how blessed they are in their features, more to do with whether they keep themselves in shape, are well groomed and dressed etc. 2. Brains. In this day and age, the average notion of beauty can be purchased and created with the help of plastic surgeons, beauticians, hairdressers, personal shoppers etc. You can't buy yourself a brain though. georgehutton
In the book Live For Success they did study after study that proved you can really increase the way people treat you by the way you dress, groom and carry yourself. Looks do matter, but you can go a long ways simply by keeping fit and walking and sitting with confident posture. And I'll take brains any day. It sucks to get a physical beauty who can't carry on a conversation worth a you know what. The attractiveness just vanishes. Brains, personality, emotional and social intelligence last. Beauty doesn't.
fral945
1. Do you think attractive people are treated better/differently in society? Yes. 2. What would you chose: looks or brains? I would choose brains, but if I was a woman I would choose looks. Brains will give a man more opportunities with the opposite sex than his looks. I think the opposite is true for women. Posco_Proudfoot
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I agree with what everyone else has said. If someone takes care of themselves and is concerned about their self, and is happy, it can have an impact of how others view them. Not every man goes for the dumb blond who has the personality of a desk lamp. Some will go for the smart girl that doesn't wear makeup, etc etc. Like I said, it's all in the beholder. Trialbyfire
1. Yes, attractive people are treated differently, both positively and negatively. 2. There's no contest. Brains by a light-year. I should incorporate this into my living will. "If my IQ drops below 100, plse pull the plug on my food source".
burning 4 revenge
Well Looks will bring you more pleasure while youre young. As you age and lose your looks it would probably be better to have brains, but the best would be to be hung like a horse
GoodOnPaper
1. Do you think attractive people are treated better/differently in society? 2. What would you chose: looks or brains? 1. Yes. 2. Looks. Having your natural talents lie primarily in academic matters is more limiting than what you might think.
flc
1. Yes 2. Both I believe that in the looks dept there are those who everyone would consider attractive and those who everyone would consider unattractive. The majority of people fall in the middle and as said beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What you can do is move yourself in one direction or the other based on your lifestyle choices. If you pig out every day, don't do anything for fitness and wear bad clothes you head in one direction. If you take care of yourself, dress well you head in the other. Those that follow the latter route tend to have high self confidence and a positive outlook and this will translate into better opportunities in life.
lovestruck818
1. yes 2. looks- face it, they are given more out of life, don't have to work as hard and people respect them more.
carhill
1. Not by me, but that's no barometer 2. Neither. Longevity. Nothing more interesting than connecting the past with the future and outliving all your critics.
OneTwo
...Hence, these events have prompted me to ask 2 questions: 1. Do you think attractive people are treated better/differently in society? 2. What would you chose: looks or brains? 1. Differently: yes definitely. Better? It depends on your opinion. If you are attractive, people will flock to you and go out of their way to get attention from you. But, others will be jealous of you and do things to harm you (spread rumors, etc). So, there are good and bad attributes to being attractive. Pretty people seem to have more opportunities presented to them, but they also seem to have more hurdles to leap over for success. Just look how the paparazzi tries to dig up trash on the celebrities. Why is that? It's because people love to see a person fall from grace. The same thing happens in the normal world to attractive people (albeit on a smaller scale). 2. Brains over looks, but some of the lucky ones have both....
steveraves
Attractive people do get treated better. It's not fair but that's the way it is and there's a lot of studies that show that. Looks vs. brains. I think looks are important because I think for the most part that is what attracts you to someone, however a really attractive person with no brains is a turnoff. I don't care how attractive they are. So I guess I'd rather have someone average with brains, then attractive and stupid.
motive2002
Can I comment about personality? I've met plenty of smart people that I absolutely cannot stand. If you dress well and wear a SMILE, you will be attractive to lots of people. If you have a bubbly, positive, easy going personality to go with it, you'll have an abundance of friends and acquaintances. Looks don't have a lot to do with it. Everyone has their preferences of what they find attractive, but looking sharp and wearing a smile is universally accepted by just about everyone.
shadowplay
1. Do you think attractive people are treated better/differently in society? 2. What would you chose: looks or brains? 1. Yes, especially when you look at either end of the spectrum. Somebody who is extremely gorgeous will undeniably be treated better than the average person, while somebody who is very unattractive will have a very tough go in the world. People who fall inbetween will feel some effects of looks, but personality will play more of a role in how others treat them. 2. Brains. Even if you're given opportunity because of your beauty, I can't see deriving much pleasure out of life without a brain to interpret and appreciate the world.
Adri Ana
1. Do you think attractive people are treated better/differently in society? 2. What would you chose: looks or brains? 1- Your personal charm and charisma are that what makes other people treat you best. 2- Looks are of less use,if one has no brains . wierdmunky
[quote name= 2- Looks are of less use,if one has no brains .[/quote] Yes. 1. Good looks with brains, than yes 1. Good looks with no brains, yes if you are around people who only care about that. 1. Good looks with no personality, treated better for probably 10 seconds if they are around smart people. 1. People appreciate beauty, but there is more to interacting with people than just standing there and being seen, if you can't do anything with your pretty self then I still think you're S.O.L 2. Both. georgejungle
I DO think a really CUTE girl or CUTE guy are treated better than say, an average looking guy or girl. Not tons, but some. Depends. It's just society. The funny thing i always think is, Who says that Beauty is what it is? Why aren't HUGE noses cute or why isn't Baldness more sexy than hair? ever wonder how we as humans decided that stuff long ago? I would choose looks though. shallow, but true. i think i have charm and wit already and SOME brains. haha
griffinchicken53
i've met some attractive women and was blinded by that, but later learned they were total b!tches. and other women i thought were hot and conceited are actually some of the nicest ones i've met. what's that saying? beauty is only a light switch away. i'm not an attractive guy and i have low self esteem. but for me going to a restaurant by myself isn't always a great thing. i get ignored, can't get a drink refill, or in a few cases went to the restroom only to come back and find they bussed my table for a happy couple. carhill
Dude, they took your food. Walk out and invite them to call the cops. For me, just a stare-down from a huge middle-aged bald guy gets the message across. No attractiveness required
