steve38
Being a writer is the best! I travel around to foreign places and immerse myself in the local culture. I write about simple things, like meeting a beggar on the street, dealing with a surly bartender, or romancing a local girl. It’s a nice gig. Usually there are copious amounts of alcohol involved and it’s all under the guise of actually being productive and creating something. What a racket! Or course I have made no money off of my writings, but I write because I love the challenge. I’m a left-brained person and writing does not come easy, but I have a millions stories I have lived and I’m just trying to put some of them down in words. Recently, I found an editor that likes my stuff so maybe I can do something with that. Who knows? But writing for a living sounds like quite a chore and is very very competitive. Guess you have to just find your niche. For me, I know everyone writes better than me, but nobody has done the things that I have done. So I have to work with that...peace! TwilightSky
I've been told many times I should be a professional writer. I've written fiction, poetry, etc. None published though. But if you're going on "kudos" then, I would say I am successful. Also, there is plenty of money in writing from what I have observed. There are TV/Script writers for example. And believe it or not, there are some video game companies that employ full-time writers. Not too common, but I've heard of it.
pandagirl
Some tips: 1. Get clips. If you are unpublished, try to get some clips. This often means writing for free, but you need clips to show editors so you can get assignments! 2. Start a blog about something interesting, funny, and current. If you can get a buzz going about your blog, often times, literary agents will come to YOU. 3. Email anyone and everyone. Go through a magazine you'd like to write for and pitch every editor on the masthead. Or write 50 literary agents. You're going to get rejected a lot, but you need to cast a wide net. That being said, right now is a bad time for writers. If you want to pursue this career, do it for the love and because you're having fun!
