Tony T
St. John's Wort has been shown to be effective for some people who have mild depression. Enjoy your new found happiness and don't worry about where it came from. If cow manure rubbed over your hair helps you be happy, do that to. Whatever it takes I always say!!! belend52
I havnt taken it no, but i have hurd it can be used for depresion, dont belive its all in your head. Are brain can make us think anything, pain thats not there etc. I would sugest if you are female, and on the pill that they dont go well together and it can reduce the effectivness of the pill. 2SidestoStories
From my experience with it, although I have never taken it (my ex-husband who has been diagnosed as clinically depressed did), the stuff can apparently work wonders for those who do have MILD depression. However, according to the label of the bottle, as well as a physician whom we visited, St. John's Wort actually acts as a mood enhancer, which means that if you take it whilst in the throes of a deep depression, it will tend to deepen the depression; likewise, if you take it and are in a good mood, apparently you get pretty f*ing happy. <shrug> Use caution and trust how your body reacts! moimeme
St. John's Wort Increases Metabolism Via CYP 3A4 Laurie Barclay, MD Sept. 16, 2003 — St. John's wort increases metabolism via the cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzyme system 3A4, according to the results of a study published in the Sept. 17 issue of The Journal of the American Medical Association. This may significantly affect the bioavailability of half of currently marketed drugs. "St. John's wort is a popular herbal product used to treat depression," write John S. Markowitz, PharmD, and colleagues from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. "A series of case reports and formal clinical studies indicate that St. John's wort can participate in clinically significant and perhaps dangerous drug interactions."http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/461520?mpid=18754
MarieW
I came off Paroxetine...Seroxat ( or Paxil as it's known in U.S ) six months ago after years of being on it. I was coping ok, brain chemicals obviously back to being reasonably normal but I was sooo angry all the time so i tried St Johns Wort and found it great. Took about three weeks to kick in but i became sooo relaxed, just didn't give a hoot...but I became TOO relaxed so I stopped taking it after a few weeks and now I'm okay without anything Still have bad days but I've realised how strong I am, 'cause I cope. I think it's good stuff but maybe only as a temporary measure.
