Hi Powered
I am not talking about prostitution, im talking about going with someone you dont actually fancy, because they have money/security. Is this what women resort to? I think that many relationships may be based on this, as it is very rare to find a man that you want to get physical with who also has the security factor. They are either good looking bad boys that have no money or nerds with money? Is this true?
zhsoj
I take offense at the notion that nerds are unattractive.

boxing123
I think it works something like this.. 2 guys. Both look the same, similar mannerisms, etc Guy 1.. New BMW, stylish condo, spending money. ALL OF A SUDDEN he is Funny, cute, eccentric. Guy 2. 1989 Chevy Cavalier, lives with parents. Ugly, boring, lame sense of humor. Guy 1 is just seen as more attractive and a dream catch for millions of women. Guy 2 is a loser.

BareGoddess
Ridiculous. I was married once before and he turned me on and did alright for himself. Same with my H...totally attracted to him. Neither one was/is rich but they did/do better than average. Maybe to some women they'd be considered nerds but not in my book. I thought my ex was better than average looking and to me my H is also. You know what category is the worst to me though? Good looking bad boys with a lot of money. I've been out with a few of those including one who was an actor who actually won an Oscar! (Waaaaa, I could have attended the Oscars that year! ) I dropped him like a hot potato.

Guy 1 is just seen as more attractive and a dream catch for millions of women. Guy 2 is a loser. Dude, you gave two extremes...I changed the second one to have it be more balanced, plus more realistic.

allina
No, I wouldn't date someone just because they were successful and had money. I also wouldn't date a broke or unintelligent man.

I agree about the unintelligent part but I have dated poor men before. One was a dairy farmer who asked if he and his teen-aged daughter could move in with me. I said no. Poor is one thing...poor AND had a teenager was quite another!

That's a handful See, I could never date a farmer either I don't need a wealthy guy but I just wouldn't get serious with, or marry a guy that made 40k a year or something. I would feel like it was a burden on me, we could never have kids etc.
curiousnycgirl
Wow not what I thought this thread was about! Would I date someone for their money - nope. Would I contemplate sleeping with someone for money - depends on who, and how much.

So basically you (a generalised you - obviously) do expect to be taken care of .

No, I wouldn't date a man for money/security if I didn't fancy him, same as I wouldn't mercy date a man just because he was a "nice guy". Women can actually make their own money these days... movingonandon
Let me just wrap this thread up. No woman is going to say yes. Yep, the directness of the question prevents it, plus its a bit more nuanced than that. where I live in the south, there are many hot girls whose approach to marriage is "baby, I'm gona walk you down that isle before you even know what happened to you". And that's what they do - find some guy that makes decent money and doesn't know any better, and then he's stuck taking care of them for good . So it's not that guys overpower them with their money, it's the other way around - they get overpowered because of their money

The Collector
Scroll up one post- there is a negotiation about to start! Yeah, if the question is 'would you sleep with George Clooney for a million bucks' of course there will be takers. But if it's 'would you date and marry a guy you don't find attractive for his money and security' no woman will say yes - although it happens all the time.

But if it's 'would you date and marry a guy you don't find attractive for his money and security' no woman will say yes - although it happens all the time. You're right, I wouldn't say yes. I honestly wouldn't date and marry a guy for his money. I really couldn't stomache the idea of pledging my life to someone that I didn't love. Not even George Clooney. He's slimy:cool:. Maybe a one-timer for a million bucks;).

So basically you (a generalised you - obviously) do expect to be taken care of . How in the world was that a double standard? Why are you assuming all this about me? (I know you said the you was a general you but you're clearly applying these things to me as well). I have NEVER said that I expect my husband to take care of me, and I don't. I have a job I love and though I'm 25 and only a couple years out of college I do make more than 40K. I'm ambitious, smart and driven, I want the same in a mate. There are no double standards here, no unrealistic expectations. I bring to the table everything I require. But I'll give you this in terms of "being taken care of." If my SO and I decide to have a child I WILL stay home for a year, I suppose you can consider this wanting to be taken care of, though I don't. I think most men would want their new baby and wife to have this luxury.

Yeah, sure. I don't think it happens as often as you think it does. First of all very wealthy men aren't that common and secondly how many women out there even have the OPTION of dating very wealthy men - let alone marry them? Wouldn't they have to be above average somehow themselves? And we're usually talking looks here, let's be honest. How many really beautiful or above average women would date a very wealthy average looking guy? Not that many in my opinion. So there goes your theory that it "happens all the time." Are you the dude who says he's so rich?
The Collector
No, I'm not the dude who says he's rich. And fine, it happens sometimes. It happens. Whatever. Not all women are gold-diggers by any means, but there are gold-diggers, yes? And there are rich men who wouldn't have a partner without their $$$.
