Push ups against a wall

Recommended Posts

I don't have a great deal of floor space at home suitable for doing push ups so sometimes I try leaning against a wall and pushing away from it. Does anyone know if this is effective or should I try to find more floor space?

Lord Byron never did pushups on the wall! :p

Now, drop and give us 20 (and then 10 stanzas of epic verse).

Try under the bed.

The resistance should be even more effective then regular push ups alone.

One day you might even get to do some on top of the bed.

Byronic Hero defined

The Byronic hero presents an idealised but flawed character whose attributes include having great talent, exhibiting great passion, having a distaste for society and social institutions, expressing a lack of respect for rank and privilege, thwarted in love by social constraint or death, rebelling, suffering exile, hiding an unsavoury past, arrogance, overconfidence or lack of foresight, and ultimately, acting in a self-destructive manner, and always doing pushups on the floor.

Will you do push ups in the tub?

How about push ups in a pub?

No Sam I am I will not do push ups in the tub, nor in a pub.

How about in a box?

With a fox?

No Sam I am I will not, will not do push ups in a box, with a fox, in a pub or in the tub.

I do not like push ups Sam I am.

A chair, a chair, push ups in a chair?

How about push ups in mid air?

Push-ups against a wall are good for calves and achilles heels, but do virtually nothing for upper body strength, other than bi- and tricep development.

Have you got room in your loo.....? Face the loo. Put one hand either side. Extend legs out. Do push-ups.

I would strongly advise you close the seat first.

Or at least, flush....

but I dont think pushups against ther wall will do much good. Most of your weight will still be held up by your legs that way, wont it? Then there will be little resistance for the arm muscles to work with I think. But again, Im no expert.

Yeah pretty useless.

If you're pressed for space and want a really good push-up, put your feet up on the edge of your bed and do decline-pushups.

The extra angle helps!

Wrapped around the ankles with the toilet seat up, the "He Man" way.

Ah, yes.... that way once you get really buff and you are working yourself to the point of puking, you won't even have to interrupt your workout. Well, you may want to reach up and do a courtesy flush...

If you stood on your head and did push ups off the floor, then conceivably the upside down push up against the wall may work.

That would give full weight resistance to your upper body.

Sounds kind of dangerous though.

  • 2 weeks later...

push ups work due to gravity so the wall isnt the best. wall push ups are good for posture and shoulder girdle stability. just go outside to the park if you dont have room in your house. its that simple.
