25 male college student that has been single for 4 1/2 years

Recommended Posts

I'm a 25 year old male that just went back to college. My 2nd semester back is starting on the 19th. I've been hoping to find a girlfriend for 4 1/2 years now, but so far i've had no luck.

I'm very intelligent, but I know I have flaws. I have my fair share of problems, and not normal ones, either.

While I do live in my own apartment and my college is but a mile away from where I live, I do not have a car. The reason I don't have a car is because I don't have a driver's license because I get anxiety thinking about driving down a highway. Yep, i'm a guy that is afraid to drive.

As far as my self confidence goes it depends on the day. Some days I have a lot of confidence, but it's still never enough to walk up to girls on campus and start flirting.

But there are a few things you should know about me first. For all my high school years I was home schooled, and i've only had two girlfriends, both of which I met online, they were over 4 years apart each and 1 only lasted for a weekend, the other for 3 months. I've searched and searched around here, but for example: the craigslist in my area is horrible. I've gotten maybe 2 replies that were actual girls (and not spammers), and they stopped talking to me after they saw my picture. I know i'm not ugly, no one has ever called me that, but i'm also not sexy or very cute, maybe slightly above average to a handful of people.

Last semester I was walking out of my psych class and a girl walked up behind me who had came from my class and told me how it was a nice day, we talked a bit and then she walked to the library to put books away (it was her job). We never spoke again after that.

I guess i'm just hoping this semester will be better. I live off campus, and in my own apartment and I walk to class and back on Mon/Wed/Fri. I guess I pretty much blew every chance I had with that girl, but i'm sick of being alone. I think of how much richer it would be to wake up every day to go to college not just for studies but also to see my girlfriend.

I got really depressed over this past winter break (which lasted a month) honestly, i'm not too excited at the moment of going back to class tomorrow. I guess i'm just not sure where to go from here.

I know how things can go. I haven't had many girlfriends either and there have been long periods between them. You may be going about tyring finding a girlfriend the wrong way. Being in college gives you the best opportunity to learn about the things you enjoy. You may want to find clubs and organizations on campus that seem to interest you. Through these activities you can find other people that have similar interest and expand your social network. While it may take some time you may meet someone that could develop into a significant other.

I know how you feel...its tough, I'm shy and picky, those are my 2 big problems...I'm also starting to think though, that maybe its also the guys I choose....I feel as if I rely on some sort of intuitive attractiveness when it comes to mate selection, so I'll dig someone not only cause he's cute, but because I sense something more...But that feelings obviously are never mutual...:( Just keep looking...They say there's a someone for everyone...when we finally meet that person, we will....hopefully not in YEARS...hopefully soon...Lately I've been focusing on just my attitude alone, thinking that'll help...
