georgejungle
It's hard. I LOVE Coffee and I know i'm not alone in this. 100 Gazillion strong! I'd open up my own coffee shop if i had the money. Anyway, my problem lies in the fact that I was a late bloomer as far as drinking it. I didn't start until i was 30. Then i went hog wild, two cups a day at least with a possible coffee drink from Starbucks at night. BUT, (no pun intented) it tends me give me the runs, even though i cut it down to 1 a day...AND...i've been getting the shakes/jitters a lot lately, even after 1 cup and i think it's the culprit of any little stomach imbalances i've had the past 2 years. i.e. the acidity. So what's my next move. I've read coffee is good for brain activity and has antioxidants. I dig that. There's Alzheimers and PD in my family. I've heard coffee/caffeine reduces the risks. 1 a day shouldn't hurt me...But how can i get the caffeine and keep from getting the runs and jitters? Am i alone here? it's an affair that was never meant to be i suppose...
kizik
Well, as a fellow coffee lover, my temptation is to ask you to actually drink more. But I won't do that. Since you get the runs, keep it to one cup a day... but savor that cup, boy, b/c besides weed, coffee is the best thing this world has produced.
Author georgejungle
maybe i need to do every other day. I can't do the decaf, it just doesn't taste the same. Thanks for the advice.
electric_sheep
Why not drink that cup when you know you'll have a lot of running around and chores to do? The jitters are annoying when you are sitting in the office, but when you're cleaning up the apartment or doing chores you don't even notice.
amaysngrace
maybe i need to do every other day. I can't do the decaf, it just doesn't taste the same. Thanks for the advice. Did you ever try Maxwell House Lite? It has half the caffeine and is good tasting, less bitter than the full-caffeine kind.
blind_otter
Instead of making 100% decaf, try doin 1/3 decaf to 2/3 caf, or 1/2 decaf to 1/2 caf. Experiment with ratios. I stopped because of heartburn at the end of my pregnancy (I was allowed 1 cup/day by my OB), but when my son hit the 2 month mark I started drinking 1/2 cup a day with extra milk in there. Also, do you drink black coffee or with milk? You could try soymilk instead of cow's milk, that may help.
laRubiaBonita
there are some low acidic brand of coffee out there. also, have you tried yogurt to help your bowels... activia- or any of those tauted to help with digestion? the caffine in the coffee is generally what kicks starts the poo.... it's one of the reasons i stay regular...... so maybe if you start tryning different brands and types of coffee you will ba able to find one you can enjoy with out discomfort
Trialbyfire
Have you considered replacing coffee with green tea? Tea has a lot of antioxidants and culturally, green tea has been used for centuries to help with stomach disorders, vomiting and diarrhea. http://health.yahoo.com/other-other/green-tea/healthwise--d04490a1.html
Meaplus3
Too much coffee gives me the runs too. I swear it's a natural laxative. Now, are you drinking it black? How much do you comsume per day? I put a little milk in mine and stick to one cup in the am... that seems to work just fine and does not cause bowel issues. Mea:)

I'm not sure if I'm even capable of pooing without coffee anymore. For me: Coffee + high fiber diet = regular
Author georgejungle
I stick to one small STRONG cup in the morning. (I'm actually on a coffee fast, haven't had ANY in over two weeks.) I use the Coffee Mate Creamer (prefer actual Half & Half but I try to be good) and a little sugar. Have you considered replacing coffee with green tea? Yes, i have...I have a cup every now and then. I should probably drink it everyday.
whichwayisup
Do yourself a big favour and stop drinking Starbucks coffee. It's strong and hard on the stomach, which is why I won't drink it. Tim Horton's coffee does the exact same thing to me. I drink Maxwell House half caffeine and half decaf (or on the label it says 50% less caffeine, can't remember offhand), sometimes I buy coffee at a local breakfast eatery, their coffee is fresh and not too strong.
