Yes, eating right is just as important as excercise to lose weight. I'm also eating healty, and excercising more than isual, and in two weeks, I have lost 2 kgs. Write down everything you eat, I mean every single thing, for a week, and you will see where you need to improve to start getting results.

To properly lose and maintain substantial weight loss, you need to change your entire philosophy about lifestyle. It has to become part of how you think, your choices in food intake and exercise.

Imagine thinking about working out and eating healthy, as part of your daily regime, like brushing your teeth or having a shower.

I did the whole counting kilojoules thing before my wedding as well as intensive exercise 4-5 times a week and lost 3kg in just under 4 weeks.

It was worth it- writing down everything you eat really makes you think twice about what you put in your mouth.

I limited myself to 6000-6500kJ a day.

The most important lifestyle I changed to lose weight was to embrace drinking lots of water. It keeps me full so I am not apt to eating as much and it has other benefits as well. When I am hydrated I look younger!

It really comes down to burning more calories than you consume.

I never eat after 6pm at night- and I force myself to have breakfast every morning to kickstart my metabolism.

More smaller meals throughout the day as opposed to 3 square meals with also help to speed up your metabolism.

I thought this was doable until I converted it to pounds.

Johan,

what is so hard about it? Do you need a work out and eating healthy buddy? Let me know and we could be our weight loss support buddies?

Cheers

Atkins.

I did it five years ago and dropped about thirty pounds in the space of a few months.

What I didn't do was stick with healthy eating after that, and I gained most of it back.

A little over three weeks ago, I started on it again. Not much movement for the first week. Since that first week, I've dropped ten pounds. And it's already noticeable; I've had a couple of people tell me my face looks thinner. And my gut is considerably smaller.

Yes, I'm starting to get tired of meat, eggs and cheese, and of only being able to eat salad vegetables. But, it won't always be that way. And the results have been so encouraging that I'm willing to stick with it. Once I've reached my goal weight, I'm going to add in complex carbs (European-style whole grain bread, whole wheat pasta, very little sugar or white flour), and do my best to eat healthy.

Try it -- commit to going extreme for a few weeks. Once you're seeing results, you'll want to stick with it.

I will agree with reservoirdog1. I have been on the Atkins diet for 6+ months and have lost more than 70lbs. I only have 20 more to reach my goal. If you are only trying to lose 8kg (I am guessing that to be about 20 lbs) and if your results are the same as mine, you should be able to do it in less than 3 months. I am not a doctor though, and you might want to talk to one first before doing the diet (although I do this diet and consider it to be perfectly safe, some doctors might advise against doing it).

you dont give enough info to make an assessment. the amount you want to lose is achievable.

if you are not doing at least 3 40 min cv sessions/week..and by that i mean 40 mins above your comfort zone ..then forget it.

someone mentioned atkins..dont bother. eat healthily, eat everything in moderation, keep fats low, have slightly more protein to induce feelings of fullness so you consume less calories overall. but the body needs carbs so dont cut them out.

if you eat more than you burn off... you get nowhere. its a simple equation. it takes time to figure it out by trail and error...unless you take the scientific approach and work out your metabolism and calorie intake versus what you expend.

I specialise in corrective exercise, nutrition, exercise for medical referred patients and all that mumbo jumbo.
