Trialbyfire
Compulsive lying isn't against the law but isn't a good character trait for a police officer. How in the world would he be able to testify in court as the arresting officer, if he has difficulty telling the truth? Also, imagine someone who's inconsistent and deceitful with friends. Do you suppose that this kind of person would be considered trustworthy, to uphold the law? The list goes on, so regardless of criminal record or not, there are enough shady individuals who shouldn't be allowed to be police officers.

Otherwise, see if you can do a job shadowing thing, to see if this is really the job for you. I have known cops who love it, but it is a very emotionally consuming job. refurb
One problem with taking a job with the RCMP is you can be posted anywhere. You might end up as the only RCMP officer in some tiny town in the Northwest Territories. RF
