Author DSM-IV Tom
This Narcissist does. Are you a diagnosed narcissist or do you just think you're one? Because pretty much anyone who reads the symptoms, will think they are a narcissist. Because we all have the symptoms. But for fun, I'll assume you are officially diagnosed as a narcissist. So tell me, why do you use turn signals? Lol
Geishawhelk
A narcissist will indicate in order to make sure the idiot coming towards him, and the jerk on his tail, do not collide with his car. Indicating Motives are entirely self-serving and self-preserving. IMHO.

So tell me, why do you use turn signals? Lol I am currently seeing (ie sleeping with, not in a professional sense) a trained, qualified forensic psychologist. She agrees I am a Narcissist. I use turn signals for the reasons Geishawhelk says, and because I don't want to be stopped by the police. I am also capable of social niceties.

Or, as in my ex's case, he didn't bother putting on his right turn signal to let the guy know who was waiting at the intersection to take a left hand turn that we were turning there. The guy COULD have gone had he known we weren't going straight, but no - he had to sit there and wait because my ex doesn't give two sh-ts about anyone but himself. He would also take a left hand turn into the right lane, or vice versa, because it was easier for him that way instead of going into the correct lane, putting on his signal, and then switching lanes. Funny thing, though, he did that once in sight of a cop, who pulled him over.

You are of greater intelligence than most people, so I want to hear what led you to realize you were a narcissist.

He would also take a left hand turn into the right lane, or vice versa, because it was easier for him that way instead of going into the correct lane, putting on his signal, and then switching lanes. Ooooh. One of my peeves. I do it the correct way no out of concern for others but simply because it's the correct way; there is a procedure and that is the procedure. One right way, all others being wrong ways. I hate making mistakes. So - narcissist or no?
Author DSM-IV Tom
Honestly judging from the information displayed by everyone here, no one is a narcissist. Selfish bastard perhaps (referring to your ex donna), but I don't think narcissism is at play with anyone. Not even collector.
bubblegum
...You know, since they only care about themselves and what not. No, they don't. An ex of mine rarely used turn signals. Why? Because he, like all narcissists, was like a young child, who assume the world is theirs and everyone in it is there to cater to their needs, and their needs should be apparent to all. He would go into a rage when pulling something heavy behind his truck, and the person in front of him wasn't going fast enough, or the person behind him wasn't going slow enough, or the person next to him wasn't making enough room for him to change lanes -- because clearly he needed room to move his 3000lb vehicle, and everyone around him should know how difficult it is to accelerate and brake with such a load. Like a child throwing a temper tantrum.... Tom -- nice baiting of the self-proclaimed narcissist, Collector!
The Collector
Can you tell me why exactly you think you're a narcissist? Giving some examples? Author DSM-IV Tom
Collector, I dare say you are not a narcissist. Not that that title means anything. We're all just people, and psychology isn't a proven scientists. These labels really mean nothing at the end of the day.
Storyrider
Does a forensic psychologist analyse dead people? Are you a dead narcissist?
The Collector
Does a forensic psychologist analyse dead people? Are you a dead narcissist? I made the same assumption when I met her. Her job involves interviewing and writing reports on criminals to see how looney they are and what treatment or punishment would be appropriate. 'Forensic' means like 'clue gathering.' And it turns out it would be unethical or something for her to write a report on me that would end up on a site like this. But I will do my best to explain why I have Narcissistic tendencies (it's a spectrum) when I have more time. I love talking about me, of course.

We're all just people, and psychology isn't a proven scientists. These labels really mean nothing at the end of the day. I'm not a narcissist, but the term means nothing? Hurm... Do you think the term psychopath is meaningless? It's a useful term based on behaviour. Also 'anti-social' + 'narcissist' = Psychopath. I score, or more accurately used to score, for that. But most psychopaths grow out of it by the time they are 30 or so.

But if I had to drive somewhere, then my minimum expectation would be a police escort. That's funny, St. V. My mother actually says God (who she doesn't believe in) is a narcissict for wanting people to pay homage to Him all the time. I assume he would want a police escort on the roads, too. Isn't this sort of like Zaphod Beeblebrox, and why he wasn't annihilated by the Total Perspective Vortex? B/c he really was the most important person in the Universe. When you are put into the Vortex you are given just one momentary glimpse of the entire unimaginable infinity of creation, and somewhere in it a tiny little mark, a microscopic dot on a microscopic dot, which says, "You are here."
