can you gain weight from cardio workouts?

Recommended Posts

I have gained 3 pounds. I have reduced my caloric intake and i thought i would lose weight and not gain. I have been drinking a lot of water though...Could this be it?

Can a cardio workout make you gain weight? I feel like i am more toned, even a friend commented about my appearance today but I have gained and It is evident i need to lose not gain!

Yes of course you can!

You build muscle through cardio workouts.... Muscle weighs more than fat (mass per mass....)

your friend trlls you you're looking good. just go by the seat of the pants rule, how are they fitting?

My friend gave me the compliment of looking good today at the gym. I feel that my pants fit good. However, I don't want to gain weight! I gained three pounds this week. I weighed myself today. I have not increased my caloric intake. But like i said i also have been drinking a lot of water too. Its just so odd! I will weigh myself tomorrow morning. It just really sets me in a "not so hot mood" thinking about those pounds.

First off 3 pounds is nothing could just be water weight, depending on when I weigh myself I could way 5 pounds less or 5 pounds more just depending on how much I drank and ate and stuff and the outfit and shoes I happen to be wearing. 3 pounds is an easily possible variation. If you are more then 20 pounds overweight don't expect the weight to just magicaly disapear you could easily gain weight even if you cut your caloric intake depending on if your eating habits have changed plus unless your actualy measuring the and weighing the food you eat your only estimating

It's not uncommon for people to gain weight when they begin exercising. You get a quick build up of muscle that weighs significantly more than the fat you're losing. If you continue to gain weight consistently from cardio than something is not right with your diet. If you are drinking a lot of water before weighing yourself that could easily be a couple of pounds right there, a quart of water is two pounds.

Your weight will vary by more than three pounds throughout a single day, depending on what you've eaten and drank that day, as Green said. You'll weigh your heaviest at night before you go to bed.

To get your "true weight" on any given day, weigh yourself first thing in the morning AFTER going to the bathroom. That will give you the actual weight of your body, before you add food and water to the mix. If you still weigh three pounds more than you expected, then definitely go by the fit of your clothes, not the numbers on the scale.

Your goal should be to actually LOOK better and get the body shape you want, not simply to weigh less. If you just want to weigh less, stop exercising today. In a week or two you'll probably have lost those three pounds you're now worried about, but your clothes won't fit as well because your muscle mass is decreasing and your fat mass is increasing.

That's not a trade off you want to make. Just keep doing what you're doing. You're headed in just the direction you want.

i have found my problem. This morning i weighed myself and magically 2 pounds were gone and apparently its the monthly thing (surprise) that made me gain weight. Its just unexpected for this time of the month...dont know why. Anyways it was a scare because I don't want to weigh more.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.
