Author nana yaw II
Perhaps, but if you are going to use religion as a basis of you argument then you will need religious points of reference to back up your claim. Also, there is more than one religion in the world and yes, even in the USA. Christians say that god has made humans for a purpose, and anybody who deviates from that purpose goes to hell. Because it is a societal norm. It is an unspoken agreement of universal behavior. If you don't understand societal norms then why do you use them to try to prove all your points? i understand them perfectly. but life isn't so black and white, so norms are always subject to bending. knaveman
Christians say that god has made humans for a purpose, and anybody who deviates from that purpose goes to hell. I understand this, it is a valid argument, but if you plan on using it you will need to back it up. That's all I'm saying. Don't call the Bible a lie then use it's teaching to support your position. i understand them perfectly. but life isn't so black and white, so norms are always subject to bending. If they aren't so black and white then why do you use them in such a black and white manner. Saying that all dull people are losers and will never amount to anything contadicts because of societal norms condradicts this statement. If societal norms are indeed gray and subject to bending then and you know this, then you also know that not all dull people are losers and useless. The statements you make are almost all black and white blanket statements but you follow them up with statements like this. You do contradict yourself quite often, but as you are fond of saying, no one is perfect most of all you or I.

knaveman
You're very difficult to have an intelligent discussion with, do you know that? Your rebuttles make no sense what so ever. At least I tried.
Geishawhelk
Knaveman! What do you expect?? I've tried explaining this so many times. How can you expect to have a logical coherent discussion? It hasn't even hit puberty yet, It's 12 and is thick, dull, immature, argumentative, troublesome - and a troll. Leave it be. It only does this because it's 'just the internet', it doesn't care what people think, and it feels it unnecessary to make sense because there's no need. I daresay if it functioned like this at school, its teachers and fellow pupils would be pretty angry. However, as all it can do here is use words, it does so to great effect and pi**es people off royally by being irritating and pointlessly argumentative. It's a Troll Do Not Feed The Troll. It would have been off the forum like a shot, elsewhere.... as you and I both know.....

wierdmunky
ok, are you 100% consistent? Are there occasions in which you don't always adhere to a strict guideline? as you say, human beings are imperfect. so we are prone to error and fault. lol!!! people with no friends are geeky, ****ty nothings, which is why they have no friends. A flaw is relative, like everything else in life. I see it as a flaw that US society seems to care about celebrities a lot. but it still is part of the society, no? A culture can hold a principle, but this doesn't mean it's necessarily a good principle. It still nonetheless is a value of the culture. You must have no friends with this attitude, and since you also say you would never have the nerve to show this side of you in public, maybe you should try to let the real people, in your life, this side of you, to their face and see if you care what they think about it. If flaws are relative, I'm sure they wont care.

keepmoving
take person A, who is funny, talkative, lively and outgoing. Now take person B, who is quiet, seldom talks, boring, and has a dull personality. Person A would get further in life than person B, certainly, so why should person B be him or herself? People kind of say it's sin to change oneself, but why? It's no different to anything else one can do to improve their life. Who would say improving one's life is bad? What is it you mean by further in life? I think Bill Gates got pretty far, and I think he may have been considered quiet, boring and a dull personality. What really defines how far you go in life is the depth to which you know your personal truths, values and your true self. People want to interact with you when they can see the genuine person or spirit that emanates from you. This can only happen when you know and are comfortable with you, the true you. I think that most of the unhappy people ( and many of them are the ones you may think have "made it far") are unhappy because they are living someone else's life. Discover who you are and celebrate that spirit. You may find that others are soon joining in your celebration.

I think that our culture really values the outgoing types these days because the most common way to make good money is sales. The strong silent type might have flown in Germanic tribes or Viking clans 1,000 years ago where your value was based in being a soldier. Now, no-one cares what you know. Its if you can convince others to do what you want. Who makes more, a guy who sells homes, or a guy who builds or designs them? That's how dating is set-up. Its not about what you do. Girls like things to be exciting and have "sweet nothings" in their ears. Bill Gates wasn't that ingenious of a computer guy. He was good at predicting human behavior and aligning himself accordingly.

Its not that you get what you give, you want people to have overall pleasant interactions with you. If you say nice things that will feed their ego. If you're truly nice, that is a rarity and most will find opportunity to run-over you.
Author nana yaw II
Its not that you get what you give, you want people to have overall pleasant interactions with you. true. but having pleasant interactions means getting on with people and not ruffing others up. If you say nice things that will feed their ego. If you're truly nice, that is a rarity and most will find opportunity to run-over you. this is also true, but i don't define nice in terms of being accomodating or overly helpful. i think if a person is generally pleasant to others, treats others as they wish to be treated, and doesnt go out of the way to offend, inflame or insult others then they would receive like treatment. So, you define life by societal standards that you call "norms" but you have your own definition of "nice." You should tell us all the rules before you try to "have some fun" with all of us. It's only the internet. lol.
