Tom Cruise is not my idea of extreme masculinity. He's the controlling overly possessive type, which I associate with weakness which I associate with femininity (sexist as that is). Strength is someone who is controlled, confident and doesn't need to control another person.

I like that subtle distinction!

As long as you don't start equating strength with emotional Unavailability again, I agree. When I said Tom was overly masculine, for my tastes I meant looks only. :)

movingon, I bet you're cuter than Tom.

but i bet tom cruise could charm any single woman on here to drop her undies if he really wanted to.

Guaranteed he couldn't...now.

Pre-nutbar phase aka Top Gun phase, he seemed pretty normal and approachable.

Why is everyone so hard on old Tom these days? I heard he was mad as a hatter, but I dont know why that's the common perception. Is it is his strange religion Santeria?

I thought about it, and I somewhat agree with Shadow that my perspective may have influenced this thread.

I think it's safe to say that I look for a certain force or gravitas or pathos in someone's facial expressions, and that coupled with handsomeness is what gets me going, and that is really rare.

I still abide by my original point that attractive women are more common than attractive men, though.

I think that's because the standards for a woman to be attractive are much lower than the standards for a man. A man can go out and probably find one out of every 3 women he sees attractive (depending where he is). Women are much more picky. Just look at that thread a few days ago about the things women find physically attractive in men and what is a "must." Very rarely do guys meet that criteria.

I wish he was a member of a Santeria group, at least then he would be interesting. Try Illuminati.

My mother had an aunt that was into that stuff, although my mother and the rest of the family is in denial

I do think women tend to look for a guy that stimulates their imagination--something intangible, even if it's just an illusion of depth. Guys don't seem to look for that in women as much, because they're more sexually driven. You may be right.

You actually have to have real power and influence, before being allowed into the ranks of the illuminati!

True, I think many women look for this. Their definition of attractiveness tends to be more subjective and impressionistic, intertwining looks and personality. Men view looks in a more simplistic, objective sense. While each guy may have a different ideal woman, he'll find a girl acceptable if she's considered hot by society's standards. Blandness or lack there of isn't a factor.

Mostly, he's too short.

Do you think his vertically challenged affliction, has afflicted his ability to think like a rational being?

Yeah, I think if a girl has a "deep", seductive, alluring thing going on, that's seen more as icing on the cake for a man.
