I would consider myself a Handsome man but some days I look like crap and then other days I'm a lady killer getting looks every where I go like if I wear a nice suit.

Yes you are handsome Green. I think I'm the same way some days I look like crap and other days I look good without even trying.

It really is tough. I don't have a lot of features women find physically attractive. I'm not 0/10 ugly so some women will befried me, but I'm certainly no more than a 3/10. Academic intelligence I have more than almost anyone, but that is not an advantage dating. In fact, it might scare off some. I'm a very competitive guy, but this dating game is a bit too competitive for me.

I believe that looks are what most people go after above all, regardless of what people say on here or even tell me to my face. Actions speak louder than words.

I'm curious, are the women you seek to date 3/10? Or something else . . .

I've been so discouraged I haven't even tried. Over the years, I had somehow hoped I'd be set up or someone would give me someindication they were interested. It did not happen.

Last month I had started to put together some online dating profiles, but had some bad days and stopped. I decided I want to concentrate for the time being on improving myself and making myself more dateable. Exercising and eating better are two things I'm concentrating on now. These are two things I've been poor at for many years.

Once I improve myself, I'd be happy to get a 3/10. Maybe that's the wrong attitude?

Exercising and eating right are important! No one can promise they will make you look significantly better but you'll feel so much better you won't even care. Lift weights, get a new haircut, or something. There will be bound to be women who find you attractive and there probably are already, you just don't know.

Don't worry about number ratings. I made the mistake of using numbers earlier on in this thread, to illustrate my points. Anyone can go after whatever they want, provided they are able to deal with any rejection that may or may not occur.

How am I more mental than anyone else on LS?

Seriously I'm open to criticism/honest advice like Star Gazer's, but it's hurtful to be called vapid and crazy when I'm just basically thinking aloud. It makes me feel like my thoughts are no longer welcome here.

i for one think there's been a lot of interesting input on this topic - unlike the majority of the lame ones that die in 3-5 posts.

thanks for starting it, Isolde :)

Thank you. I have an issue with my posts being too free flowing but I honestly think that's more a function of the large number of contradictory opinions/fast pace of responses than of my slight insanity.

I wonder if it has always been this way or if it is regional or if women just have so many more ways to beautify themselves?

It is DEFINITELY regional!! But you already know my opinion about this Isolde...

There are also a lot of people, particularly older women, whose faces become gaunt and harsh after losing lots of weight. So don't overdo it.

yea star jones is one example, her face looked better when she was heavy

I always lived by the theory "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder"

I think the comment you were referring to was uncalled for, but you can't expect to post a thread saying how there's hardly any handsome men and not expect some sort of backlash. You may have honest and good points in your thoughts, but you have to realize that people reading may reasonably be insulted by it, and won't respond with criticism or honest advice. I'm surprised this thread hasn't completely gone south at this point.

She lives in Minnesota, what do you expect.

Just a testament to the highly refined intellect of LS posters...

What backlash? It's good that there's a load of ugly dudes around no? Not sure what anyone could be annoyed about.

No, MNrandomguy lives in Minnesota.

Ed Norton is hot! I like how he can look really handsome but he still has enough geekiness to seem attainable.

I completely agree with you on Ed Norton in Fight Club! He was so hot in that movie!

It is very much a regional thing, but I do notice where I live, the women are gorgeous, from the sexy FHM-like girls, to the natural girl next door, to the rocker girls, the athletic types, to the edgy girls, to the beautiful professional women; there are beautiful women everywhere! It's just too bad I'm not into women!!!

As for men, I just don't see many who are my type! But when I do, oh how I can appreciate a hot man - all they need is some Irish Spring and they are ready to go - don't need much to look great! Then again, I love the All-American athletic type who probably played little league when he was a kid and then played baseball in HS, and who grew into a good looking guy!!!! Ok, I think I need to move to the Midwest or the East Coast or something......

Gonna stop daydreaming now......

I don't know if your right, but I definitely hope you are, my odds are going way up! ;)

Hm, the responses to this thread have been interesting...

As far as "objective beauty" I think the sexes are pretty much 55-45, with women getting a slight edge (in N. America least) because of our numbers (there are more women than men atm) and beauty habits. (My guesstimate is in NO way scientific -- just a guess. And I am rounding!)

This is based purely on objective, not subjective, attractiveness. As we all know (I hope?) people have traits that boost them up a bit, and that should skew the ratio.

Like the original poster, I used to wonder where the great looking men were. I found plenty of good looking guys, but not in comparison to the huge number of great looking women. I wondered at one point if I was simply more attracted to women...and kinda pursued that a little.

But that wasnt it.

I have decided its because WE ALL find great looking women attractive..they're pretty, who wouldnt? Women have more opportunity as far as hair , makeup and fashion to make themselves look more outstanding. So, there are more of them and even those women who usually look only good, can often look great.

Not so for guys.

But I'm attracted to them anyway and very much so. For me, a good looking guy can become GREAT looking because of the way he smiles or his attitude in general. Sometimes it takes a conversation to get there.

I hesitate to post this, and I hope I dont offend anyone... but as far as the U.S. goes... people in the South are generally much more attractive. The women definitely are. Not to mention, they're more friendly too.

Nothing wrong with saying that Charles, it's your opinion and one that a lot of people do share. I think the South is the place to be if you like conventional attractiveness in both genders. I actually prefer a nice New England or Midwestern boy to a Southern boy--the Southern guys are (stereotypically) not quite as well rounded, and also too muscular/rugged for my liking.

California men are also very attractive, but toooooo laid back for my liking. To me a man needs to be able to be shy and serious every now and then to be attractive. LOL!

My favorite type would be a sweater-wearing, clean cut, blonde, yet intelligent, Ivy League man of the 1950s or 60s.

Of course these are generalities. Where I live, I see plenty of guys I find really attractive, though I don't live in a city that's generally considered to be the most attractive region of the country.

Pretty women are rare in the Pacific NW. It can literally be weeks between a 'sighting' here unless you go to venues that draw a non-random group. Most of the really hot women are 'imports' it seems like. Interesting data point, of the last 3 friends who got married, all married really pretty foreign born women.

I think a lot of American women are being passed over for marriage now because men realize they have options.

J/K--I think plenty of American men are gorgeous you just gotta find them.

South American women are outrageous

Cuban and Puerto Rican women not so much and I'm allowed to say that. I'm not Ben Afleck myself, so I don't pretend I am.

But South America..besides cocaine and pirrahna fish they seem to produce the most gorgeous women

Hahaha.

Well it's possible but a lot of foreign people are not gonna be big earners, and as we have amply learned women are by and large unwilling to marry down financially whereas men have (mostly) no issue with it. My co-workers have married a Japanese woman, a Vietnamese woman and a Bulgarian woman.

Educated women but they have to reset their careers.
