I love oatmeal (eat it almost daily), but I sweeten it with raisins, mashed banana, frozen blueberries, and/or a teaspoon of agave nectar. That way, the oatmeal tastes good and I don't have the sugar rush. I've had to tame my sweet tooth, but I don't go so far as to cut sweetNESS out of my diet all together. That would take all the enjoyment out of eating. I also drink smoothies made of plain kefir (which has more probiotics than yogurt), soy milk, protein powder, and frozen fruit. Also tasty and friendly to the digestive system. Then again, I'm not trying to body build. Not sure if there are rules against fruit-based carbs where that's concerned!
