Girasole
I've decided I want to legally change to a different surname. What I'm concerned about is that you have to get the approval of either a clerk of court, or a judge. I worry because I hate the name so much and I'm so scared I'll find out I'm stuck with it. Is this a valid reason to change my name? Would it be hard to get approved in this situation? It's ugly, I hate it, and I don't identify with it. I've always wanted a pretty last name. The name just isn't music to my ears. In fact, it makes me cringe. I have a generic full name and it's annoying that so many others have the same full name. I feel like people need a sense of individuality and I want a full name all my own. I don't identify with it. I love latin culture and I speak Spanish and I would like to take my Spanish ancestor's name. I want people to know I have Spanish blood because latin culture is practically half my life. 2sure
If you are an adult, and a legal citizen with a birth certificate and a social security number - changing your name is not a big deal and happens fairly frequently. Your reason for changing it is a minor detail and not important when you do the paperwork. You can begin the process by getting the proper forms together for social security, driver's license, and wherever your birth certificate is filed. Next, you see an attorney as this process does require a legal action to complete.
Rollercoasterr
Just change your friggin' name and get it out of your system. Who cares what the reason is? I'm sure the government wouldn't care if you changed your name to Orange Juice. Seriously, though...if the guy from ? and the Mysterians can legally change his name to Question Mark then you should be fine. Stop stressing so much about it.
