Makeup at work

Recommended Posts

OHHHHHH thats a good idea as well ..ill try that too. The great thing about darker skin color makes it pop...i was thinking the first color to try is pink bc its light and girly and ill add brown and sweep the highlight color all over it.

Thank you ill try this too :)

Whats your job what colors do you wear to work ? :)

I'm a legal secretary in a district office, and I come in contact with professionals every day, from lawyers to senators. I wear whatever color I want. I try to not opt for too much shimmer. Mostly only on the highlight color, if at all, and I always make sure I don't overdo anything. I just make sure my colors match my skin tone and other colors, as well as what I'm wearing. Not that I match my color with my shirt or anything stupid like that, but if I'm wearing cool color clothes, I wear cooler color makeup, and vice versa on warm colors.

Yes stargazer my judgement should be the critical skill focused on not my makeup. Which is why i dont see why a sweep of purple would cos an uproar.

You also forget what works for some people maynot work for some. Maybe those dark skinned ladies you see have a different undertone coloring than i do so neutrals look good on them where as they look like shimmering mud on me.

I am by no means hiding behind my makeup if i could get away with it i would just not wear any at all. Whats your job occupation? What are the rules where you work about makeup? are you in charge at your job? Im not being ugly im just trying to get your pov.

Social worker and teacher are pretty much the same kind of environment. Ive seen teachers wearing purple eyeshadow and no one has said a thing in fact one of them won a teacher of the yr award.

Another thing to think about whats "bright" is subjective. What that girl in the first vid was wearing was not bright in my opinion and obviously not in hers.

My issue with what was said was that it was said in a unkind way. There is a way you address people. If someone is asking for help to not be condiscending isnt "coddling" them.

Why is it that you dont like color? Is it because you are so afraid your "professional" image will be tarnished if you wore a light shade of pink on your lids?

The problem is with the WAY she applied the eyeshadow, not necessarily the color itself. You never sweep a solid color across your eyelid like that. It's too school girl and garish looking.

It's all about highlighting and defining. Think of the darker shadows like, well, where you want to make an area look set back and the lighter ones where you want things to stand out. I use highlighter first all over my entire eyelid. I then add the medium color (like that gal was wearing) in the crease and up to where you can look at yourself straight on in a mirror and see it create a little bit of depth to the eye. I also add some to the inner and outter corner of my eyelid (the part that covers only the eye). I then take the darkest color and line under the lower lashes all the way across (but darkest at the outter edge) and just above the top ones but only about 1/3 of the way in and, again, darkest at the outter edge as well as deepending JUST the crease. Then blend it with a long, natural bristle brush with short strokes from outside towards inside the eye. I then take a look and if it needs toned down, I add the highlighter again over the top.

I've always been told I do fantastic eye shadow, and guys tell me they like that I don't wear too much makeup. I must be doing something right. :D

I guess my opinion about the color she had was different bc she was using spell and on camera it showed up as a darker purple than it really is. I have the color she was using and its more of a light lavender color(in the first vid lol)....

My cosmetologist friend is in college studying forensics (she wanted a bs ) so she isnt around to ask all the time lol so this is helpful what i dont get is some of the makeup gurus work in an office and this is what they say they wear to their job. Maybe they get away with it bc they are younger? or maybe their job doesnt care?

i was gonna try this since the blue looks navy on her eyes now im afriad lol

If it looks too blue, add the brown. That gives it a nice muted steel blue look. You still see the blue without it being BLUE!!!! if you know what I mean.

ok does the brown thing work with most colors?

See i wanted advice from here bc its coming from non makeup junkie perspective. I asked this on makeup talk and got good answers but they were kinda biased lol. I just want advice for the first few weeks until i can get a vibe from the office.

I've used it on greens and blues, but not on purples. I always choose a more dusky, muted plum than bright purples or lavenders, so I don't need to do the trick with the brown. Some blues and greens I've bought, though, look nice in the palette, but then you put 'em on and WOW! I didn't want people asking where I kept the batteries. :D

and see purples arent that bright on me i dont know if its my undertones or what i mean im rhiannas shade but i have yellow undertones and she has reddish ones. I have noticed orange looks nice on me with out looking to bright it blends into my skin my mother even complimented me on it and she hates e/s lol it brings out my yellow. So i think i have to just experiment the worst the boss can say is "please dont wear that again" and i wont. I wont be a case worker until i get my masters right now i have a bs so i really wont have a "important" position lol so i think ill be in the right place to get it right before i do move up the ladder :).

thanks for the help i have a greater idea....esp now since i have two board answers to compare and contrast. Maybe i should have been a mu artist like i originally wanted to do...ah oh well lol

just turned 27 (im an old woman i know)....College took a while between transfering and the school not telling me about courses i needed well yea here i am lol.

Im pretty good at applying makeup ive been doing it since i was 16 and get help from my beauty school buddies when i can. Ive always marched to the beat of my own drum. I mean in hs i was teased bc i didnt act like what they thought a black girl should act(spoke in complete sentences didnt roll my neck around basically like a steroptype) . So of course when it comes to makeup i dont give a rats behind what someone thinks. I like bright colors and my cosmetology friends would always use me as a model bc they said they could put more color on me bc my skin is darker than they could a lighter skinned woman. So from being their model i learned what looked good and what didnt. I know how to apply dramatic makeup but i never learned how to do subtle looks well (strange i know lol). I tried neutrals and so have my friends but they always had to add color bc i would look tired or it would look chalky and muddy. Its not that i care if my coworker have an issue with my eyeshadow(i got over ppl talking about me in hs lol) its just i dotn want to get in trouble for it. I have heard of people getting in trouble bc of their perfume. I mean to me these things are insane to think about bc i just want to do the job i get lol.

sorry for the long explination. :)

Have you ever been in a closely confined area with someone with WAAAYYYY too much perfume on? And cheap perfume at that? I don't like it, but it wouldn't be something that made me run and tattle to a supervisor over. However, some people actually have a chemical allergy to certain, especially cheap perfume and simply cannot breathe. That's where problems come into play.

Makeup is pretty personal. Unless you apply your makeup like a Hollywood Boulevard street walker, I wouldn't worry bout it. :p:):bunny:

TwinkletOes, the clips you keep linking to, are ones from the same girl, an advertisement for the same website, who probably has much lighter skin than you do, based on your description within this thread of yourself. We can only guess at how these colours would go with your skin tone.

Just test the colours on yourself and ask your friends what they think of the look. Since you're 27 years old, most of your friends will probably have experimented with makeup themselves, thus also have a good idea of how to wear their make up in a more conservative fashion. Good luck!

Hi TBF! :bunny:

I agree with you. T-toes sounds like she can tell what colors look good or not.

T-Toes, try different shades of neutral tones. The underlying hues will define what looks good on you or not. For example, like I said above, certain purple shades look fantastic on me; others, not so much. It's not the actual color for the most part, but the hue of that color.

There is no advertisement its youtube....if theres an advert its a link to where to go to get the products she uses. I have a 120 palette so im not using the same brand except the purple.

I will experiment some and see what works and what doesnt. I kow red e/s is not my friend LOL
