I have this now, and I have heard it is due to allergies. All I know is that it drives me crazy!!!

What causes it? Has anyone out there also had chronic "inner ear itch"?

Sometimes this is caused by soap entering the ear while showing or bathing and not rinsed out thoroughly.

I also notice it whenever I've got a cold and the earwax starts to produce a little.

however, if you've ever had damage, like a blown ear drum, the new skin that grows back is sometimes sensitive and gets a fungus and you've got to get medicine for that. But it's not really an itchy sensation, more like a pain, like an inflammation even though when my doctor looked inside my ear canal he said there was no redness!

Yes!!! I have been to an Ear/Nose/Throat Specialist as well and I have "chronic swimmers ear" so I have to be really careful about getting water in my ears and I have steroid cream I have to use to keep the canal moist.

I still get flare ups every couple of weeks. The skin on my ears actually rips apart and bleeds. OUCH.

The itch is AWFUL. It actually feels like something is crawling in my ear or something! VERY uncomfortable and annoying to say the least.

I get this now and again, ugh, it's so frustrating! cotton buds and causing a vibration in my innner ear by bringing up phlem (but not actually bringing it up) are my saviours.

It could be seborrheic dermatitis (a bad case of dandruff), which can grow anywhere on your body where you have hair, but is usually on your scalp and yes, in your ears. Is your skin dry and flaking inside and/or on the outside of your ears? That's another sign of it.

A dermatologist will prescribe an ointment (ear drops) which will heal the skin and make the itching go away. Also, a home remedy is vinegar - one part vinegar to three parts water. Just dip a Q-tip (cotton swab on a stick) in the solution and then swirl it around in your ear.

I get an itchy inner ears each spring when I allergies start to go hay wire. So IMO I'd say it could have something to do with an allergy. You could always run it by your primary care doc. Good luck.

After a month of going through so many q-tips, which by the way always came up clean, I have been told that dry air is the cause of MOST inner ear/throat/eye itch during the Winter months.

I have set up a humidifier in the house, hopefully this will alleviate the symptoms.

What bothered me the most was the ears-but I had all of the other itchy membranes also. Although the eyes to a lesser extent. The symptoms (as I have been told) vary from person to person; so some have it worse with the eyes, or throat, or skin....

And I was also told that putting cotton swabs into the ear canal is not a good idea; but I think I am addicted to it! I mean, it feels soooo good! I usually wet it before I swab, and just to reach that deep itch feels almost orgasmic!!

But seriously, I am hoping the humidifier works. I hope this thread helped someone else out there too.
