Round face dilemma ...

Recommended Posts

Baby Face. That's what I'm called! I'm 24 years old and happen to have quite a round face. I've been very self-conscious lately, as I feel like I've a very small chin. Is there any tips or suggestions to have my face appear ...err...less-round? Hair? Makeup? Toning? Anything? Please!

Me too! And according to my friend Nikki, who is a stylist by profession, round faces are quite rare...and unfortuneately, hard to work with!

Here is some info for you about how to ware your hair to achieve a more "oval" look...which is considered to be the ideal face shape.

If you have a round face shape, the goal here is to slim the face. Hair below the chin line should be worn with a face-lengthening center parting. For hair above the chin line, wear an off-center parting to break up the roundness. Creating volume at the top of your head and keeping your forehead bare will also slim your face. It's best to avoid short and sleeked-back hairstyles. In shorter styles, it is best seen with hair brushed away from the face, building extra volume at the top of head to narrow the roundness of your features. Because the widest part of your face is at the cheeks and ears, you need to avoid having the fullness of the cut here as it will make your face appear wider. Also keeping hair off the face at the cheek area is recommended

PS...No bangs!

You can also use blush to contour your cheek bones, but I would say stop worrying about the shape of your face. It would be a boring world if everyone looked the same, and I'm sure you're beautiful the way you are.

Thanks a bunch for the tips. I've always had short hair...down to about my neck. And since the last year or two, I've started growing it. It now reaches my mid-back. I wonder if that could be a reason why i've been noticing it so much. I read somewhere, long hair isn't for people with a round face.

You might want to check out a Kevin Aucoin book. He was an amazing makeup artist who died 'way too young. His methods were meant for models or people on-screen, but you can get an idea of the tricks he used to contour faces.
