ruggy
I figure I am about 10lbs. over my weighted goal. No fat really in upper body, legs, butt, face or arms. Flex and muscle definition is clearly there. Flexing my abs and I can see the abs under the fat. Seems the last 10lbs to 12lbs is always the hardest. Going to start the Tae Bo cardio this week. Maybe that will shed some extra weight. Also taking Hoodia to help curb eating habits. Though certain cravings still come through albeit in smaller amounts though.
Lizzie60
No.. it's not overweight.. but it's a 'sign' to start being careful about your weight.. People don't get fat overnight.. it's start with 10 lbs .. then 20 lbs.. then 50 lbs and so on..
Author ruggy
Well, a reduction in my case so far. Lost about 60 pounds in about a year total. Trying to get rid of these last teaser pounds. Really annoying.
I'm Joe
How tall are you? 10 lbs could be a big deal if your really short... but Id say if your 5'6 or above 10 pounds is nothing to be worried about.
SpanksTheMonkey
10 pounds to me no is not even close to overweight and please be careful with the diet pills they can be dangerous!
mark982
great job on losing lose pounds though.keep it up ,you'll get there.
runner
yea stay off the diet pills; they'll do more harm than good. also, i don't know that it's a good idea to focus too much on weight or bmi. rather, i look at my overall muscle tone and how well i perform while exercising. and those two things really depend on the quality of your diet and the amount of physical activity you incorporate into your life. is 10lbs overweight? i think it varies from person to person. the best way to know is to get a thorough physical exam and check for blood pressure, sugar levels, etc. lastly, if your ultimate goal is to look like you should be on the cover of a magazine, get ready to cut out a whole lot of fun stuff out of your diet. been there, done that, and realised that it wasn't worth it. Author ruggy
I'm 5'10. Magazine cover, no. Just a flat stomach; which seems nearly impossible to obtain for me. I have cut out most fun foods. Snacks now are fruits, veggies, cheerios, etc. I do have a slow metabolism, so that is working against me big time. I enjoy working out. I actually work out until my arms can't lift anymore. The running I do hate. It is just so boring. Its like watching paint dry. Waiting for the Tae Bo so I can cut out the hour of running.

It's super fun, you'll meet tons of nice girls and guys, and it's a great workout. Last summer I hiked half-dome in one day (16.5) miles, and the only thing that prepared me was swing and salsa. I didn't go running, hiking, or weight-lifting, but swing and salsa made me fit enough to conquer that rock. Also check out rock climbing, mtn biking, river-rafting, etc... Quit killing yourself for cardio in the gym and go outside and do something fun to get your exercise!
rod_in_gtown
How does the hoodia work for you? I've read a bit about it and I could use some help with the appetite supresant. I currently train tennis on an almost daily basis but the cravings are ruining my work. Last year I was really disciplined and lost a lot of weight but the winter was a disaster: no tennis season and I hate the gym even though I'm still paying for it. Any side effects? allina
I'm confused. Aren't you basically asking if being 10 lbs. overweight makes someone overweight? Isn't that what overweight means? If you're 10 lbs over your ideal weight you are overweight by 10 lbs. So yes. Of course this doesn't mean you're fat, obese or grossly out of shape just a few lbs over your ideal. Let's not let semantics get in the way of a good thread. With his logic, you could use induction to show nobody is overweight. W1 + 10 = W2, where W2 is not overweight. So, what's good for W1 must be good for W2... W2 + 10 = W3, where W3 is not overweight. ... ... hee hee.

Add in a representation for time and you have the formula for making people fat. I don't consider 10 lbs to be overweight, just a tad extra. You'll work it off.
Author ruggy
Hoodia is pretty good at suppressing appetite. I eat around 1500 cals a day now. Adding that with working out it does pretty good. But you have to watch what you eat still though. I am big on protein, fruits, veggies and wheat. Make sure your buy the real stuff and not the fake stuff though. The ones offered at Puritans.com is pretty good.
Touche
Wow, only 1500 hundred cals. And you're a 5 ft 10 guy. Interesting. I'm a 5 4 1/2 woman who considers herself underweight. I need 8 to 10 pounds more. I've been on a "diet" since January. I need anywhere from 2000 to 2500 a day to gain. I seem to just maintain at around 1700 cals a day. I think 1500 is too low for you. Star Gazer
Last summer I hiked half-dome in one day (16.5) miles, and the only thing that prepared me was swing and salsa. I have always wanted to do that! Is it all hiking, or is there actual climbing involved? My legs are rock solid, but I'm nervous about having to climb-climb, as my upper body isn't nearly as stong. As for the OP, 1500 calories is WAY too low for a guy, even when trying to lose weight. Your body will go into starvation mode and hold on to everything you're trying to burn off. There are some great calculators online to help you figure out how many calories you need to consume in order to gain/lose weight based on gender, age, height, current weight, and activity level. Just do a Google search. As for whether 10 pounds is "overweight," for you I'd say no. I've carried anywhere from 7 to 15 extra pounds around since I got out of lawschool and found myself sitting at my desk most days. Right now I'd estimate that I'm at about 10 pounds over. There are days I feel fat, and days I feel just perfect... it all depends on how active I'm being at the time. I really think exercise and perspective have a dramatic impact on how you perceive your physique in that way. In addition, I swear (this could be a product of my imagination) that the excess fat redistributes itself around my body. Some days I feel bloated around my middle, and thin everywhere else. Other days I feel like I have inflated thighs with a trim waist. And then other days I feel like I've got a hot bod and a chubby face! I'm convinced its hormones.

And how, exactly, did dancing give you the upper body strength for that??? That's gotta be the SIDE of the face though, right? Not the actual FACE where it's completely vertical...?
