georgejungle
as i've posted in other posts, i've been trying to get back into exercising on a regular basis. Not to lose weight, just to keep healthy and limber and just feel better overall. with our infant, it's been rough. There's always something to do. By the time i get home from work, it's last thing i wanna do... due to being tired and the fact that baby still keeps us up at night. I take over at night, have fun with baby and give wife her time to workout, but i'm having trouble getting motivated in the mornings. Mornings is when i think it'd be best to do my workout. But All i ever want to do is keep every single minute i can for sleep..hehe. Wife is more energetic than I am. I'm a rusty gate lately... Any Tips for getting motivated? i'm sure it's just DO IT! gopher
Schedule and prioritize it, otherwise you'll never find the time...seriously.
electric_sheep
Use those periodic lulls during the day, even if it's only 5 or 10 minutes. I used to run up and down the stairs at the library between studying when I was in school. I occasionally do some pushups, lunges, or squats in the office when nobody is looking, and there are a couple of places where I can even get some pullups in now and then. It helps to keep me awake, if nothing else. You could also keep a jump rope in your car. 5 or 10 minutes of jump roping really adds up, and you can basically do it anywhere. Seriously though, you can actually fit in more exercise than you would think this way, and it will help energize you throughout the day. Certainly better than nothing. linda8055
You need to allot and set time aside for exercise. infact you should write down a specific time period when you are going to exercise and don't postpone it due to something else because then you will end up not exercising at all. Trialbyfire
Exercising is like sex. The more you do it, the more you want to do it!
JamesM
Exercising is like sex. The more you do it, the more you want to do it! I need to say the reverse to my wife. She likes exercising. I can't say that this is true for me though. I can say that the best and only time for me to exercise is the morning...and I am NOT a morning person at all. But I know that once it is over, I feel better. I do know that my morning exercise program is not nearly as energetic as it would be if I did it at 10 am. However, no other time will work. I can easily not exercise but as TBF said, it has to be fitted into your schedule and made a routine. As soon as you let yourself fall out of the schedule, you will lose the benefit. I can really tell the difference when I exercise. And BTW for me I must be a member of a gym for it to work. There is a place on the way to work and it fits in nicely. After my workout, I pick up a cup of coffee (and sometimes a donut which nullifies my workout for the day ) and head to work. I feel more energetic and refreshed than if I skip it. How to motivate yourself? It actually works the opposite IMO. Simply start the schedule because you know it is good for you...not because you want to exercise. And as TBF said, once you begin doing it, it becomes part of your schedule and you actually begin to enjoy it. maybe not as much as sex...but close.
Trialbyfire
I can say that the best and only time for me to exercise is the morning...and I am NOT a morning person at all. But I know that once it is over, I feel better.I'm the same as you, not a morning person but always do my routine in the morning. It's a combination of yoga/pilates 5 - 7 days a week, where every second day, I do stairs, for cardio and to work out my legs. If I had to use a gym, I know I wouldn't be as dedicated, for all kinds of reasons including commute time, effort and other reasons.
hotgurl
for me the gym is impossible too. I walk at lunch and take a belly dancing class once a week after work with a friend. Now that it is light out and getting nicer I will take a 2nd walk or a bike ride with my daughter after work. With she was an infant I always walked with her in a stroller that is how I lost most of my baby weight, She had trouble falling asleep in the evenings so the motion of the stroller helped with that and I got my exercise. MichaelKEH
I dont have any kids, they teach us in multiple different courses at the university that having kids is one of the worst things you can do (haha, i found that very amusing) but anyway i can relate to having problems getting going in the morning. What you might want to consider is buying some caffiene pills online (live pure health is a decent place) and set your alarm 1/2 an hour early, pop the pill, and then go back to sleep for another half an hour. The Caffiene will be starting to kick in just when its time for you to get out of bed. So if you find your really tired in the morning this might help you get it in gear a little quicker. Alan430
im a single dad of a 5 year old, and i work out everyday. My son goes to bed at 8 so i usually work out from around 8-10. use some suppliements to help you get started. Pop one in the morning for that extra jolt of energy and after a month or two it will become habit.
