I grow my nails to quite a long length naturally but after a suffering a serious break at Christmas I am thinking about false nails.

I have heard that 'French Tips' can damage a persons natural nails and so I am a little apprehensive. At the moment my nails are nearly at their normal length and they are pretty and healthy. All I know is that I dont want to go through the awful pain I went through at Christmas ever again - and now understand why bamboo sticks under the nails are used as a form of torture! The nerves as SO sensitive! Ouch!

Does anyone have false nails here? How long will they last? Is it worth it?

Regards,

Eve xx

I have had both false nails applied, and acrylic 'build-up' nails and I'd never do either again.

They look wonderful for the first day, but after that, it's care, attention and 'go back to the salon for a repair/fix'.

Personally, if I were you, I'd stay with what Nature gave you, and make the best of that.

I love long nails, but because I ocasionally give Shiatsu massage, I have to keep them trimmed.

C'est al vie.

They're still long enough to look pretty, but short enough to be practical.

Incidentally, once, when they were long, I somehow succeeded in grabbing something badly, and folding three of them back on themselves.

"Tears to my eyes" doesn't cover it.

I know what you mean.....:)

Three nails damaged at the same time! That is horrendous! The break I had at Christmas was to my thumb nail. Half of the total nail came off in the end. It looked disgusting and was seriously painful. Thank God it didnt get infected.

But I dont think that I can be bothered with the upkeep involved of going to the salon all the time. Especially if the false nails will eventually damage my natural nails. I suppose its not worth the bother...

Maybe I will just have a polish or something and be careful until the next accident happens..

Holy cow! I am cringing at your respective stories. Ouch!!!

Sadly I don't have much to add to the original question. I got a manicure for the first time in years a couple of weeks ago; I'm a huge pedicure fan but I do too much stuff that damages nails & mani's (rock climbing, guitar, piano, plus general klutziness) to do much with my hands.

I once got french mani tips but they felt SO WEIRD and damaged my nails so badly that I never did it again.

Good luck!

Rock climbing, how cool is that! I am way too chicken to go rock climbing. From your story and everyone else who I have spoken to the same story keeps coming up - French Tips damage natural nails.. but they look SO great! I dont get how come so many people have them if they are so bad for you.. It seems like really big business too.

Maybe I have to chalk it up as a mystery?

But I really do fancy a pampering day at a spa so maybe I will have my feet done and have a massage.. or something. That Shiatsu thing Geisha mentioned sounds fab even though I dont know what it is. I thought Shiatsu was a form of martial art

I wonder if they can do something to my natural nails to make them stronger? I do find myself extra cautious after the 'Christmas nail break incident'. Then again I really should have thought things through before I went bowling.

I bled everywhere.. for SO long.

Eve xx
