ratingsguy
From a practical standpoint, how would you define an LTR? I met a woman on an on-line dating website who lives in Boston. I live in Philadelphia. I drove up there and we hit it off really well and have made plans to see each other again. The drive is about 6 hours between us on average. She is originally from Texas and to her a six hour drive isn't that big a deal -- and honestly it isn't that big a deal to me either, but it's not exactly next door. I'm just wondering if the majority of the people here are in relationships where they're flying from one side of the country to another or if this is like an LTR-lite? Also, she has no connection to Boston which is good -- she may be willing to relocate down here in the future, but that bridge is way ahead of me. In any event, what are your thoughts? Rollercoasterr
An LTR, which is what you said is a Long Term Relationship. An LDR, which is what I think you're trying to say is Long Distance. And I would consider a 6 hour drive an LDR, albeit not as far as some of us on the board. But then there are those who are 3 hours away from each other. It's all in how you percieve it. I live in KY and my SO lives in Canada. The drive from Montreal to my house is 972 miles, which would be around 15 hour drive, or a 4 hour flight. But then there's some people on here that are literally thousands of miles away from one another, and trying like hell to make it work. Good Luck!
boldjack
Anything over a 4 or5 hour drive is ltr. It has more to do with things like evenings out, movie and dinner dates, sleepovers and such, that usually mean you"re in close contact (daily).
boldjack
You're right LDR not ltr.
Author ratingsguy
Yes, I meant LDR, not LTR. Sorry about that.
Rollercoasterr
I gotcha . Knew exactly what you were going for with that one. Everyone makes typos and mistakes. I just happen to do them a whole lot in the early morning haha.

Art_Critic
I think any relationship where you cannot just hop in the car and go over her house like you were going to dinner a LDR... A LDR is where distance makes it harder to see each other... I dated a girl once that lived 45 mins from me and I considered it a big hassle and an LDR.. A typical date was like this... 30 mins from work to home.. 45 mins to her house.. 45 mins to dinner as she lived in the middle of nowhere.. then 45 mins back to her house.. the last leg was 45 mins back to my house... A dinner date on friday night would take me 3.5 hours of driving from work... way too much to spend 2 hours on dinner.. we dated for about 6 months then I called it quits becuase it was tough to drive that much.. If I wanted to see her 2-3 times a week that meant me driving more than 10 hours...
nittanylion
I am from philly. I have to fly to vegas to see her and 5 hrs plane trip is not as pleasant as driving or flying to Boston. lol! Your 6 hrs drive is not bad. My defiinition of a long Term relationship is having a committed relationship with someone whether is long distance or at home. Well, welcome to the LDR's club. hehe! SoulSearch_CO
While 6 hours is a lot closer than some on this board, I'd still consider it a LDR if it's like Art said - you can't just hop in the car and jet over to her house for a quick dinner. Some have it rougher than others. I'm 2 hours away from my BF and I consider it a LDR-lite because we do get to visit each other on my days off every week, but I can't see him at all on my other days because I can't be spending 4 hours in the car round-trip when I should be sleeping between work shifts. And he has work that he has to do, so he can't really be hanging out with my roomies while I'm at work, waiting for me to come home. It'd be nice if I could like stay the day at his place between work shifts, or vice-versa.

Hm, I think your LDR would have been alot better (and probably more likely to work out) if you just saw her on weekends? Like drive there Friday night and stay over until Sunday? I dont see the sense in seeing her on weekdays at all.
Bearandsue
I think 4 hours or more can be called LDR. Even though that looks like a skip compare to mine lol. I live in Jamaica and My fiancee lives in Canada.
Katherineos123
My boyfriend lives about 2 hours away, we see each other on most weekends, and I consider it to be long distance... being as we cant just be together on a whim! Its terribly frustrating and upsetting to me at times, and I cant even IMAGINE how some other couples, with much further distances between them get through it.... My hat's off to you! Katherineos123
lives in Boston. I live in Philadelphia I see that you are a Phillies fan! Being a Bostonian myself, I have to ask... is she Sox girl? If so, never let her go.
