What % of people do you think actually cheats on their SO?

I think 40% of men do cheat, 50% want to cheat (and would if they could), and then you have the last 10% that are honest, loving and deserve a wonderful wife! BTW...My husband would rather go to strip clubs than be wth me.

whats the divorce rate? liek 50%?

most divorces end due to infidelity, so the percentage is pretty high. Me myself I would never ever ever cheat, I been cheated on and knowing what I've been through, I would never be such greedy scum and put soemone through what I went through, not to mention its totally wrong.

I've never cheated on anyone and won't ever. My ex-H cheated on me. Note the ex part? If I had stayed with him, I would never have met my amazing fiancé! :love:

It is higher in some states; in California it is 60%.

I would say that about 90% of men cheat.

99% would cheat, given the opportunity and knowing their partner would never find out...

I would say that about 40% of women cheat.

Lately a survey in UK has postulated that women are more deceitful than males. According to the statistical data:

1. 40% of women cheat in comparison with 34% of men

2. 34% fantasize about lesbian sex while 14% men have gay fantasies

3. nearly half of the women indulge in day dreaming about love making whereas for men the figure is ten times

4. 62% of women and 82% of men claim they are sex-starved and desperate for more loving

I would say 50% of people cheat, male or female. I don't think there's a big difference in frequency of cheating between the two genders.

Studies: Women Genetically Programmed to Cheat

http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/OnCall/story?id=1469078

Two new studies find that women may be genetically predisposed to cheating on their partners.

One study published today by the University of California, Los Angeles Center on Behavior, Culture, and Evolution and the University of New Mexico says women have evolved to cheat on their mates during the most fertile part of their cycle, but only when those mates are less sexually attractive than other men.

The study in the Journal of Hormones and Behavior examined 38 coeds from one large, unidentified U.S. university.

"We found that women were most attracted to men other than their primary partner when they were in the high fertility phase of the menstrual cycle," said Dr. Martie Haselton, a UCLA researcher. "That's the day of ovulation and several days beforehand."

A related study, which will be published in Evolution and Human Behavior, finds that women are more likely to fantasize about men other than their mates, but only when they don't consider their mates to be particularly sexy. That UCLA study examined 43 normally ovulating women.

erm... yes, this is petty, but it bugged me. Was some wording dropped here or did they poll that many more men than women? 10 times half is 5. :laugh:

I'd bet more women cheat than men. But more men admit it than women. I think women are better at compartmentalizing and covering up than men are.

Nevertheless, cheating is not the cause of a bad relationship...it's a symptom.

One thing about that study: It only argues that women are ATTRACTED to other mates. Whether they act on that attraction is a matter of judgment.

Plus, you could argue that men are programmed to cheat, too. After all, male primates mate with an abundance of females to pass on their genes in the wild. Again: Humans have the rational ability to resist animal urges.

I guess the bottom line is monogamy is probably a human invention, not a biological one.

I think this is a very rational post; however, I believe men truly compartmentalize better than women do. I'm not sure women cheat more, but I do believe they are better at covering it up due to possible violent outcomes. Men admit their 'sins' because they are bigger and historically have not been stoned and ostracized from society like women have. In other words, historically, there is a need for women to cover it up: protection.

I agree, women have only recently been able to cheat in the open, but I think that's just part of the reason. It's also true that biologically, men are rewarded for promiscuity, while women are rewarded for being selective (the reward being having your genes passed on).

That's what translates into the ol' double standard. Women will flock to the 'alpha' male who has many mates, while the bottom feeders remain just that. (Obviously, these patterns can be changed through behavior adjustment.) Yet a woman who has a disproportionate number of partners is not seen as 'selective.' Her promiscuity does not make her more attractive, but to some, less so. Most women would rather avoid the 'slut' tag, while a guy would embrace the 'Cassanova' label.

I remember a girl I had a fling with - she was cheating on her boyfriend with me. It was very hush-hush; in fact, she didn't even tell her #1 best friend about it. Now, if I were in her position, I would have had no problem sharing it with my close guy friends. It's a stigma that women are less comfortable with, in my opinion.

I say Pie. For the math challenged, that's 22/7 or 3.14. If only it was that low.

Truth is, it's far too high and a pretty pathetic course of events. I just say we all become swingers and have one big orgy, since we are alll such animals and cannot stay with one person ;)

Pi = irrational

Cheating = irrational

Therefore:

Pi = cheating

Well, this is probably because in order to be cheated on and/or cheat, one must be in a committed, monogamous relationship.

We're in the realm of guess work because self-reporting in this radioactive area is inherently unreliable.

People enjoy cheating much more than they enjoy admitting to cheating.

With these obvious caveats, I suspect 33% of husbands cheat (have sexual contact with a non-spouse) at some point during the life of the marriage, and about 20% of the wives.

Even though my one affair was with a married woman, and she was the aggressor, I still believe that husbands stray substantially more often than their wives.

Gut feeling.

Part of the problem is what people consider cheating. Some don't believe that EAs are cheating, others don't believe that cyber-affairs are cheating, some believe that porn or flirting is cheating. As typical with anything human, definitions are a challenge.

Let me guess, there's no consensus on this Thread about what constitutes cheating.

What a surprise. :D

TBF, do you think my guesstimates are off assuming cheating is defined as a sexual infidelity?
