I saw this article in an Oprah magazine at my gf's house and it really struck a chord with me. I thought anyone here might benefit from reading it, I know I did. Here is the intro text, and a link to the full article.

 

Basically, it says that we shoot ourselves in the foot for solid reasons that just aren't in the forefront of our minds, and it's not about willpower that's preventing us from changing, but rather from separate and conflicting beliefs about what would happen if we did change.
