knaveman
Why do we need to explain our origins? What does it matter? If one or the other were proven beyond a shadow of a doubt tomorrow and the entire world accepted, what would change? We still have all our problems and issues no matter where we came from or how we got here. Do we just need one more thing to argue about to keep our lives interesting? It doesn't matter to me how I got here, it only matters that I am here.
JamesM
I think no matter how one believes, we can agree... Where we came from is important because it determines where we are going. If God created, then we need to take heed because death is not the end. If we came from a chance mix up of chemicals and evolved, then there is no God and all that matters is our current life. Our beginnings determine what our end will be. That is why it matters.
quankanne
we're human, we want to know these things ...
disgracian
As I have said before (though not here), it does not matter whether we ascended from the swamps or we are a chip off the divine block and fell from grace, we need to grow. We as a species are the poster child for unfulfilled potential. Cheers, D.
Nikki Sahagin
As an advanced species with the potential for amazing emotional, cognitive and psychological complexities, human beings have a natural desire to make sense of the world around them. Where other animals I assume (we do not truly know I suppose that they do not wonder about existance lol) seem perfectly happy in their simplicitiy to simply live, exist and survive, people desire to know what goes beyond. We can apply this to everything. Life and the world for all it's beauty, is a chaos, is a complete overwhelming mass that we can struggle with. For all the good in the world, there is a lot of bad. For all the beauty, there is ugliness. For all the innocence, there is corruption. I remember even as a child before I even learnt about religion or science, having an inate need to know WHY I am here and where did I come from. Children ask their parents where they came from (mummy's tummy). They want to know what happens. They don't NEED to know I suppose at that age. All they need to know is that they ARE here. But we all do question it, and from that answer 'mummys tummy' we want to know the bigger picture beyond that. I mean look at education. It's all about making sense. We invent time so we can make sense of change. We invent words so we can make sense of our thoughts and feelings. We invent degrees so we can find the meaning in books like Samuel Beckett's 'EndGame' which seems meaningless! Most people NEED meaning. It is something about our species. I suppose, it is what has made the human being reach the level it has. The reason we invent, the reason we create, the reason we do everything - because we all want to believe, in some sense, that we have a meaning. I believe few people can survive with no questions and no curiosity. But most of us - it is a part of our nature.

Enema
It's not just about knowing where we came from. The ToE is used in real practical applications in everything from new drug research to exploratory oil missions. It pays to keep doing the research and learning about what we are. Well, for one of those anyway. The former has no practical application or evidence to support it, we can ditch that anytime you're ready to open your eyes.
