I went home for Easter, and my sister was there. She has just turned 40, and looked like she had dropped a bit of weight (she is around a 14-16 US dress size, I estimate). I asked her duing dishwashing time if she had lost any, and she said she had, and said she was using a ECA stack. I went online this morning and looked it up on Wiki, and I wasn't very impressed.

Will this hurt her? Should I really raise heck with her? I don't know exactly what she is taking or how often, so am not sure if she is following what Wikipedia says is standard for users of this regimen. She is really excited about losing the weight though, and has always struggled with being "the fat big sister"; she says she has started walking during her lunch break at school around the track (she is a teacher), and she never used to exercise before.

I don't want to be discouraging (especially don't want her to think that I don't want her to be slim, out of any non-existent competition thing with me), but I don't want her to hurt herself, either.

I would defiantly say something to her about your concerns. Or at least ask her if she is aware of the dangers of these pills. Im pretty sure years of TrimSpa is what killled Anna Nicole Smith... although years of drug abuse may have had something to do with it... But seriously, ECA is scary... and they WONT keep the weight off long term, she'll lose a bunch of weight, but the second she stops taking them, she'll gain it all back.

A girlfriend of mine was taking them, and started having some pretty serious heart palpitations, and she was only 23!!

If you live near her maybe ask her if she would want to start an exercise routine with you? That way, she'll lose the weight the right way. And if money is an issue, a lot of health insurances will pay for gym memberships, or at least pay for part of them.

I only see her a few times a year; she and her H live a few hours away from me.

We were emailing this week, and she said that she was going to quit them for a long weekend, so that she could catch up on her sleep (apparently this has really bothered he sleep patterns). I mentioned the Anna Nicole Smith thing, and she laughed that off, and said it was other kinds of drugs that killed her.

Maybe she will like sleeping again so much that she will go off this? But she also mentioned that she has lost 12 pounds in 3 weeks, and she is WAY excited about that.

Hahahaha.... Very true. It was more of a joke actually. ;)

But those pills are REALLY bad for your heart, and after taking them for years, on top of her "recreational" activities, She was a ticking time bomb.

so is smoking, drinking, being over weight, well excerise too hard and your heart rate goes way high, pushing your lawn mower, shoveling snow(for us northern fools which by the way kills ALOT of people), so there's tons of ways to get your heart zipping at a fast rate. i've been in the gym-bodybuilding-powerlifting game for ALONG time, and have never heard of anyone ever having health problems from a eca stack.possible-maybe,but very, very unlikely.

I'm an avid weightlifter, and I remember researching the "ECA stack" years ago. I wanted to believe that it was harmless (and perhaps it is), but I couldn't convince myself. So, I decided not to take my chances.
