Isolde
My guideline is to have it at least half the week. Just a small bowl of cereal, a piece of toast, a Pop Tart, or oatmeal. I get low blood sugar symptoms easily, and honestly it's a nice morning routine along with my tea--it makes me feel somehow less rushed. Also, I rarely have time for big lunches, so I really do try to get something in my stomach.

FleshNBones
I don't know what breakfast is. Is that the first meal you eat? Does it have to be in the morning? Does it have to be within X hours of waking up? I gain weight when I eat breakfast, because three hours later I am hungry again, if I am working or going to school. I think breakfast is just part of a good diet: you eat 5 or 55 meals per day and they are all small, healthy and you don't ingest more than 2,000 calories per day. etc. I am sure obese people eat breakfast. Check your cholesterol, man.Consider eating something with whole grain, fiber, and a little fat (oatmeal) for breakfast. Eggs are not a problem if you are active and consume good fats. I never had a problem with a dozen eggs a week. What will get you are saturated and trans fats (fast food and restaurant food).
RecordProducer
Eggs are not a problem if you are active and consume good fats. Eggs don't contain good fats. I never had a problem with a dozen eggs a week. Apparenty you know nothing about your heart. Your heart could be in a horrible shape right now and you could have a heart attack tomorrow - and yet feel great today. Even doctors can't tell if your heart is bad unless you have symptoms. There's no such thing as "I never had a problem" - it only hapens once. To you, me or anybody else. Death, that is.
runner
yea i always thought eggs should be consumed moderately, like 2 - 3 a week, if even that.
era
In the past, eggs were given a bad rap. Eggs are packed with protien and other essential nutrients. I consume 2 eggs a day....I recently had a blood workup and my cholesterol is within normal levels.

triks
I always feel queasy every time I try to eat breakfast, and I've found that grabbing a Slim Fast or an instant breakfast shake doesn't exacerbate it at all. (On the other hand, coffee, juice, and fruit do.) If you're anything like me, you'll probably see a lot of benefit just from switching to liquids instead of trying to make your stomach handle solids so early in the morning. Even just a glass of milk is better than absolutely nothing. Don't feel like it's all about "shoulds" and "musts;" just drink or eat what you can and your body will work with it. Taramere
I'm usually fine with eating breakfast, but this morning I had a mild headache which developed into full blown migraine after cereal and a coffee. My migraleve didn't do a bit of good as I threw it up (along with the muesli and espresso) almost straight away. I'd say that I threw up 7 or 8 times from about 8am onwards, and have pretty much missed the entire day. I just got back up from sleeping an hour ago (5.30pm here). Feel much better now, but this morning's experience has made me question the wisdom of breakfast when I'm experiencing any level of headache.
allina
I didn't eat breakfast when I was in school, now I have to. I eat breakfast first thing in the morning when I get to work. I usually have a hard boiled egg, a min bagel w/ low fat cream cheese, a piece of fruit and a chocolate soy milk It's a lot of food but still under 500 cals and it gives the energy I need for the day

If you narrowed it down to your breakfast, then dump the milk and cereal and start fresh. There is no need to take chances.

There is no need to take chances. I used to think it was food poisoning too, then I had a spate of them last year. My concern was that they were always accompanied by the kind of headache that makes you feel as though you want to drill a hole in your own skull to let the pressure out. So I got it checked out, and the doctor said it sounded very like migraine. Taking a migraleve early on in the headache usually makes it go away and prevents any nausea....but because I woke up with the headache, I think it was too late. The only crime breakfast commits, when you wake up with a migraine, is that it gives your stomach something to throw up. Sorry to be so graphic.

Each time it happens, list again, until you have a number of incidents to cross reference to. Preservatives and msg, can trigger migraines.

Though to be honest, I think the espresso may have been the main culprit. I wonder if with migraines there are some times that you're more susceptible than others. Changing of the seasons etc. I'm going to go on a detox, so for the next week breakfast will be a large fruit smoothie.

OK but you said you woke up with the headache, so I don't think caffeine or preservatives are the culprits here (just a guess...i could be wrong) Did the doctor check your estrogen levels (the article Im reading says declining estrogen levels is a leading cause of vasodilation of the temporal artery which may account for women suffering migraines much more than men)
Lyssa
I eat breakfast every morning for the last 2 months )except today cause I woke up late!). Before, I only eat breakfast whenever I feel like it. What I usually have for breakfast - a bowl of nuts and raisins cereal, fruits with yoghurt and orang juice. Sometimes scrambled egg with sauteed mushrooms, coffee and watermelon juice. The difference I'd feel if without breakfast - less energy and I'd want to eat more during lunch. I had breakfast for dinner

If this only happens in the morning then maybe you metabolize it more quickly than most people. For me, three cans of pepsi is enough to trigger withdral. I bet that expresso has more caffeine than that.

Yes good post I think a lot of people get mixed up because there is such a thing as caffeine headaches, but I think they operate in a totally different way than migraines The reason migraines make people vomit is because of vasodilation stretching the nerve endings around the temporal artery, whereas caffeine headaches operate on the same principles as blood pressure headaches through vasocontriction

I'm really touched, and a little guilty for going off topic here. I had a bacon sandwich for breakfast today. It was delicious, and I've been feeling great all day. Still on the topic of breakfast, I really can't understand why any American could bring themselves to miss out on it. Waffles or pancakes with that funny whipped butter you use over there, and cream, and maple syrup and fruit...plus cup after cup of coffee....
