You'd be doing yourself a huge favour by talking to your doctor.

I have had anxiety since I was a child- always lived with butterflies and knots in my stomach. It's so bad it can make you physically sick sometimes. And it's 24/7- not something you can escape from just because you choose to.

I tried a lot of natural remedies (nothing worked)- but I eventually found a medication that works really well. Yoga/meditation also works well in conjunction with medication.

I'd talk to your doctor and explore all your options- see what works best for you.

This will make your anxeity worse. Your better off getting rid of these habit's trust me it helps. I suffer from panic attacks. I have found relief through Cognative Behavioral Therapy, Yoga, Meditation and just the simple art of distraction by keeping my mind focused on other things.

For real bad attacks, I keep xanax on hand. It's not a drug for the long term due to it's addictive properties but, it can help alot during a out of control attack. I've heard that Anti-D's can work well but I'm to stubborn to take them. Also, warm tea, hot baths, sootheing music and lotions.. they all have a calming affect. You name it, I've tried it. Best of luck.

Talking to your doctor is the best place to start. If you'd rather try some natural remedies, I've found Sam-E to be the best for helping. It won't relieve all of your anxiety but it can help even you out some.

Google cognitive behaviour therapy. I too, suffered from panic attacks and had anxiety, fears and that knot in my stomach..Did counselling and it really helped! (without meds!)

Learn all you can about panic attacks and anxiety disorders. I found once I understood what it actually was and learned how to control my anxiety, not let it control me, I felt alot better. That and the talk therapy, facing my fears and things that were making me worry..

Exercise daily whether it be brisk walking or doing yoga, or any other type of physical activity, will decrease your anxiety too. Be careful of what you eat, (sugars, caffeine etc, during your anxious times, all it will do is add to your anxiety) and ofcourse, can't forget hormones do have a play in this as well.

Some books, The Feeling Good Book by Dr. David Burns and Been There, Done That, Try This! By Sam Obitz are both excellent and can help you. Also, any Claire Weekes books are good too.

Hope this helps.

hi thanks for the replies.I have one problem with the exercise...i know that exercise can help quite abit to get rid of anxiety i find it hard to exercise more because of my child.I walk everywhere and often end up walking fast that helps but its at night times which are the worst...when i have to stay in because i have a kid in bed etc i cant just go for a walk because hes in bed.I dread the nightimes because thats when its at its worst.I drink because my anxiety goes when i do but drinking isnt doing me any good..infact i feel ashamed of it....it will end up killing me if anything..my little boy doesnt deserve that

Instead of having a drink of alcohol, get a glass of water..One thing my therapist told me from the start, "it's good you don't drink or do drugs." All that does is mask it and eventually it'll make you feel worse, or possibly teach yourself to rely on drinking to feel better..Last thing you need to deal with is that with the anxiety disorder.

I know how hard that must be to not have time to go and walk, so my suggestion is, buy a beginners yoga DVD and do that when you have time. Or just do some stretches, deep breathing in the evening once your little one goes to bed or just when you have some time to yourself. It really does help. There's something about yoga that not only relaxes the body, but the mind too. It's helped me feel less anxious and during the winter months, it's helped me with SAD (mild depression).

Another thing to do in the evenings once your child is sleeping, call a friend or ask a neighbour (if you are friendly with any of them) to come over and have some (decaf) tea with you, just so you have the company. Being alone when you're anxious just makes it worse! I know I've been there!

Please consider CBT. It saved me.

Hi,

I had pretty serious anxiety problems that I suffered with for years. I went to a doctor and took meds (celexsa)for about a year and a half... I'm off them now with no serious anxiety that I can't control with behavior. They really helped, I would definitely talk to your doctor.

Anxiety Disorders fall into different catagories.

It sounds like you have GAD- or General Anxiety Disorder. The biggest tip off is the knot in the stomach that never goes away, and you remember feeling the same way from childhood.

I can tell you what meds I am on that help- but everybody is different. What works for one person won't necessarily work for the next.

I take Clonozopam and Wellbutrin. That is a good combo for me. It took trial and error to figure that out. that is why talking to your doctor, working with your doctor, is important.

As for the drinking, I fell into alcoholism in my 30's... at first just to calm me down enough to sleep. It made me worse.

How often are you turning to the alcohol?

I've always had this myself, again since childhood. Its important to determine whether your anxiety is generalised or whether it is applicable to certain things in particular. Is there an underlying cause for your anxiety? Or are you just generally anxious about everything? I think you can beat anxiety naturally without medication...or at least cope.

Therapy, a slow exercise like yoga, talking to people, rescue remedy, cognitive behavioural therapy, may all help.

I had this problem. It is part of depression. Once I started on Wellbutrin, it went away.

I'm not saying you are depressed, but it is used to treat a variety of anxiety disorders. Have you been to a doctor?

I would suggest a few things..

1. Talk to your doctor

2. Try to see if you can get on meds and also therapy

3. If what you're worrying about, logically, you don't need to worry about then try to keep telling yourself that.

4. Keep your mind and body occupied and surround yourself with people who love you.

3 and 4 are easier said than done, I know...But I strongly suggest you do one and two. Also if you're religious pray and open your heart to God.
