Has anyone read any good books on LDR's?

Recommended Posts

I just ordered Loving Your Long Distance Relationship by Stephen Blake. Has anyone read it? Anyone read any good books that offer support/tips/advice?

I didn't even think that there might be a book on LDRs out there, although I suppose it would be silly if SOMEONE didn't tap the market.

Let us know how you like it :)

I've found this to be an interesting read.

These are letters written by someone in a LDR with the guy she loved in the year 1653.

Those two happened to get married eventually after 7 years of letters. (read)

haha IG that's not a bad idea.

I have heard mixed reviews on the book. I have a close friend who was LD for 5 years with her boyfriend (now husband) and she said it was most helpful. I will have to let you all know what I think.

Great idea IG! :)

Any coping tips from the LS LDR Expert would be gratefully received.

How soon should we expect the first edition? :D

All of you will receive a free copy! :D

And on a serious note maybe I really will. I do have time on my hands right now after all. At least I would be doing something productive.

Include case studies and thoughts on why they worked out/didn't work out.

I'd be happy to contribute, as long as my name is changed to protect the innocent ;) I'm kind of excited for you - this sounds like a great project to be working on.

LDR don't work... period.

Unless you're willing to share him/her. :o

Your OPINION.

This is not a fact or a hard fast rule.

Most people who are actually dealing with LDRs would disagree with you.

And your opinion about relationships should be taken with a grain of salt in the first place because you do not believe in monogamy. You do not believe in marriage. And you believe all men cheat.

Whatever. x a million.

oupelaye.. I stroke a cord.. :o

You know very well that you have no control over a SO that is living with you.. imagine someone who is thousands of miles away..

Um Lizzie...last time I checked relationships aren't about "controlling" someone.

I know.. but you understood what I meant.. ;)

You completely miss the point.

Each person does have control of themselves.

I don't need to control him. He's a big boy. He can control himself and does. Just as I control myself.

 x a million. Again.

Maybe this is where you're going wrong Lizzie.

A successful relationship, long distance or otherwise, is NOT about control!

Well good for you if you think that LDR works in the long run... they rarely do..

On the other hand.. someone can have all the freedom they want.. therefore LDR could be easier in a way... :o

A friend of mine had a LDR for a few years.. when he moved here, they couldn't stand to be with each other.. they split.

I guess he was used to be 'free'... :o he found it hard to have her around all the time...

Another friend of a good friend of mine.. married this Cuban guy... he moved after a few years.. but she died of cancer less than a year after their marriage.. he was gay.. and he married her to be closer to his lover.

I can go on and on.. and on.. :o

I could also go on about my own, very successful, LDR - I've been with my husband for nearly 14yrs, married for nearly 10 - we did LD for 9 months early on in our relationship and now we're doing it again.

We've lived together and we've lived apart - it works both ways - because of who we are and how we feel.

Doesn't work for everyone but it DOES work for some.

And to get back to the point of this thread.......

If it's something you'd really like to do IG, I think you should go for it!

I look forward to reading it. :)

I love how sometimes someone who doesn't spend time in this part of the forum comes along and makes blanket statements as though they apply to everyone, don't you?

This one in particular just likes making blanket statements, period. Not only about LDRs. ;)

All men will cheat on their wives if offered the chance, for instance.

IG, that'd be cool! Experience yields the best stories/information, after all. :D
