allyy
So I'm so supposed to go to Michigan in 23 days and with all of this I just don't know anymore on one side my mom is telling me it seems they might close airports, but then I talk to my boyfriend and he says that he doesn't think so. Do you guys think they will probably close the airports?

Author allyy
Yep I'm pretty sure a lot of people are planning on visiting their SO this summer. I hope this won't stop any of you guys && wish you all good luck!!
Frankie.
I hope not for your sake. I'm a bit nervous about the outbreak - my boyfriend does tests in a hospital in a major university town, and his lab is doing testing for Swine Flu. Thankfully he's not qualified to do Swine Flu testing but just knowing they're in the same building sends shivers down my spine.
TaraMaiden
Good gracious, this is just over-blown out of proportion.... Wash your hands after going to the toilet every time. men especially. They do so very rarely. Statistics show men are worse at washing their hands than women... In your own bathrooms, wipe flush handles and loo seats, and taps. look at light switches too. Do they have dirty finger marks around them? Wipe them off. Wipe a telephone used by many people. The mouthpiece is full of microbes.... Wash your hands before AND after handling food. If you cannot wash hands after and before handling food, or going to the toilet, have anti-bacterial wipes on you. Cover your mouth and nose when coughing/sneezing. Stand about a metre away form people when talking to them. This is all you need to do. Actually, you should do all these things even without a flu problem. Safeguard yourself sensibly. You know the question about how many angels on pinheads? A bacteria multiplies itself by splitting into two. This happens every 20 minutes. in 4 hours, you can have a million bacteria begun form one. They fit onto a pinhead. How many pinheads do you need to cover the palm of your hand? Wash yourselves!!
LonelyTiger
Good advice TaraMaiden, but I don't think keeping ourselves clean is going to stop 'the powers that be' from cancelling flights. There may be a lot of hype and it may be 'blown out of proportion' - we'll have to wait and see. Fingers crossed there's no pandemic! I've not heard of any airport closures, certainly not in the UK - but flights are being cancelled - that's real!
TMichaels
I've not heard of any airport closures, certainly not in the UK - but flights are being cancelled - that's real! True, but the only country being targeted or affected at this point in time is Mexico for obvious reasons. UNLESS there is a huge outbreak somewhere else, it's unlikely that travel to/from other locations will be banned. Though the length of incubation or the infectious stage is not known for this virus yet, if Mexico, for example, continues to be "locked-down" for a few weeks, eventually the flu will run its course as it simply will run out of "hosts." That process can also be hastened by people practicing good hygiene as TaraMaiden pointed out. Best, TMichaels
KikiW
We've always had a couple bottles of hand sanitizer around the house. No coughing pig death for us!
Star Gazer
The Transportation Security said this morning that they will NOT be closing airports, and that it's safe to fly. (At least that's what I heard on the news this morning.)
MWC_LifeBeginsAt40
"There is no link between eating pork and contracting the flu. http://www.freep.com/article/20090429/FEATURES08/90429018. As this article further reports, there have been no confirmed reports of pigs contracting the virus. If you have visited a hog operation recently, you will be impressed with their bio-security measures. They certainly do not want this strain infecting their hog herds and have a strong system in place to minimize this risk. Today officials are also reporting that this strain probably did not even originate on a farm. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124105320874371313.html?mod=googlenews_wsj Join the Obama Administration and others in correcting the name of this outbreak to: "H1N1 Flu". http://www.foxnews.com/politics/first100days/2009/04/28/officials-offer-new-swine-flu/ http://www.startribune.com/yourvoices/44013467.html?elr=KArksi8cyaiUgOahccyiUiD3aPc:_Yyc:aUU "
terra
This is totally being blown out of proportion! Do you know how many people die each each from the flu? 100's if not 1000's. I think the media are just bored of reporting on the war. We need something else to be afraid of.
Land Shark
I think it's wise for all of use to make sure our wills are up to date. At least list more beneficiaries, in case the ones you've already listed are dead by the time your stuff gets distributed.
