jamesmadison
I saw a post on here somewhere before....I wanna get a tattoo or Tattoos, always have wanted to, but have never had the money or never been able to get around to it and do something for myself. I wanted to get some 8 years ago, just to show you how long it's been....But now that it's sort of HIP now, It seems dumb to get one. Everyone and their MOM has a tattoo now it seems. It's kind of a trend and it makes me feel dumb going to a parlour now to get one. Anyone else have any thoughts on this subject, Should I just do what i want with my body and not care if it's trendy or not, Or should i be COOLER and NOT get any tattoss because it's "Popular" right now. VASH THE STAMPEDE
You should do what's going to make you happy and not worry about it being a fad or not. I got one back when I was in my gang years about ten years ago and now I wish I hadn't. So if you do get one make sure is something you're wanting for life ,unless you can afford or take the pain of the laser removal.
Tony T
Tattoos are an abomination and a defacement of a sacred creation. They are ugly and make people look foolish, especially later in life. Do yourself a favor and get a nice stick on. That way, you can have a different tattoo every month. Freaks went out in the sixties and there's no good reason for bringing them back. There's nothing artsy or creative about tattoos or piercings. People get them because they are bored, they are uncomfortable with themselves, they have identity problems or are otherwise not happy with themselves and with the world. People who are mature and comfortable in their meant-for bodies don't deface them but keep them nice, clean and well groomed. If you do get a tatto and plan to get good employment at some later date, make sure it's in a place where it's not readily visible or you'll be sorry. Surgery to remove them is very expensive. They just simply make people look foolish...but there are people who admire them. It takes all kinds I suppose.
moimeme
Me, I'd rather use temporary ones. Then you can change whenever you want or not have any at all. When tattoos go out of style, you'll look way more outdated than people who sport the latest hairstyles or clothes. At least clothes and hairstyles can be changed!
emokid
I happen to have sleeves(which is tattoos covering my arms completely) And you know what, Myabe it is trendy right now, But I did it for myself. I don't want to have a job where i need to where a suit and tie or a Job that wont allow me to have Tattoos anyway. Do it for yourself. Whatever makes you feel good about yourself. The only way a tattoo would be trendy is if you get a "Trendy" tattoo that everybody else has. If you get a Butterfly and everyone and their sister has a butterfly, Then yah, you might feel dumb. Just do whatever you want, we all die anyway, Might as well live it up and not care what anyone thinks.
tphillip
Originally posted by Tony Tattoos are an abomination and a defacement of a sacred creation. Hmmm. A lot of societies have used tattoos to denote manhood, socio-economic status, and religious devotion. I'd be careful about using that "defacement of a sacred creation" phrase. Intolerance is never pretty in those who voice it. In any event, go with what you want to James. My brother has a beautiful oriental dragon with multiple colors and hues on his back and I must say the tattoist he picked is a great artist. Some of the work I've seen is astounding. Some things that my brother would want me to share about tattoos: 1) Make sure the artist is sanitary (Never reuses needles, sterilizes the needles before use, etc). 2) Make sure the tattooist is licensed if your state requires it. 3) Ask to meet clients and see the work he does. That way you can see if you like the tattooist's work. Corrections are tough at best to do. 4) Tattoos fade over time. Expect to get touchups to revitalize the color. 5) Ask about installment plans and "pay as you go" tattoos. My brother's tattoo (Which takes about a third of his back) cost over $600 and he had it done over the course of a year, paying a bit at a time on a pay-as-you-go agreement with the artist. One final note: According to everyone I've talked to who's had good sized tattoos done you become addicted to the "pain" of the needle. It's a bit painful initially, but the brain begins to interpret the pain as pleasure and you invariably want more. Kinda odd, but I have yet to meet someone who's had a tattoo say otherwise. Good luck with your choice.
EnigmaXOXO
People get them because they are bored, they are uncomfortable with themselves, they have identity problems or are otherwise not happy with themselves and with the world. People who are mature and comfortable in their meant-for bodies don't deface them but keep them nice, clean and well groomed. Perhaps some people do, but the tiny tattoo on my right shoulder had nothing to do with any of the reasons above. Mine was given as a rite of passage by a Choctaw brother of mine to signify an important event and accomplishment in my life. It was "gifted" to me by a people deeply rooted in cultural and tradition, an indoctrination so to speak, that represents kinship and personal growth. The traditional ceremony that surrounded the act of my tattooing had as much symbolism and meaning as the image itself. It wasn’t put there for the sake of “decoration.” It wasn't selected out of an artist’s catalog and would hardly be considered “trendy.” And the pain I endured wouldn’t be something I’d ever look forward to again! But it’s something I am very proud of because it has deep meaning and represents an important turning point in my life. When asked about the tiny symbol, I have quite an amazing story to tell! It brings back found memories as well as serving as a constant reminder of who I am, where life has taken me, the lessons I’ve learned, and all the wonderful, fascinating people whose paths I have crossed. This was the original intent of these age old rites of passage, both tattoos and piercings, but somewhere along the way our modern society has forgotten their original meaning and intent. People get tattoos for all different kinds of reasons, some of which have nothing to do with what you stated. Please don't presume to speak for all of us. I've previously posted the design, the reason and the location for mine so I won't go through it all again. But I'm happy with mine and it reminds me of someone I love who passed away and I don't care what you or anyone else says. I did it for him and for me.
