nama
What makes you feel like you are alive - blood running through your veins? Connected to human kind? I've just been listening to some 'dark, depressing music' and I've been thinking about things going in my life and in society. I felt 'alive' thinking about sad depressing things. I don't what it was but something stirred in me. Am I alone in this???!!!
TaraMaiden
What the Buddha taught me. What the Dhamma revealed to me What the sangha offered me. That Life is suffering, but there's a way out. That the present moment is the only one we have. That friendship is incalculably precious and that Love for one another bridges everything. _/l\_

Lovelybird
It could be that you feel sadness in your own life, and that resonate yours. and your pain makes you have compassion for others, in some degree, it is a good thing. I guess that's why you feel connect to other human beings. Maybe that is your passion for improving ? but to concentrate on own pain too much is a form of self absorbing, self centerness, it will not connect you to others, but isolate, this isn't your talking here though Now I always feel alive , in the long past wasn't so. I feel I connect to the greater universe, greater goodness (God), and this is wonderful feeling. I wondered why Bible says "rejoice, joy ! in His presence" Paul was in prison, and he still rejoiced ! Despite of the circumstances, one can find peace when they call God. Now I really believe this, because this happened to me for many times. I wondered why I was joyful facing that circumstance, not make sense in human terms.

I talked about this with my therapist who said that for me to feel that compassion, empathy means that I have experienced it myself. This hopelessness, emptyness. I am a teacher and I see kids with problems, bullying etc and I carry around with me because I can 'feel' their desperation. I was never bullied at school etc it was a happy time for me. I seem to carry around others peoples' sadness. If that makes sense? I do get absorbed in my own thoughts and sadness sometimes - but in a way it makes me feel 'happy' i feel alive but in a 'dark' way. Dark, sadistic things interest me like rape/ abuse/ sociopaths etc I'm not not nor have I experienced rape and abuse but something interests me. Fear/ helplessness/ wanting to help people. I do mother people too.

Okfine
"Cooking with an assortment of hot peppers (jalapeno, serrano and just a dash of habanero) with a cigarette dangling from my mouth and a a little tazo of cuban coffee on the countertop. To pull it off correctly you must be precisely two days unshaven" I like that image. Music makes me feel alive I feel it so deeply. But the most memorable experience I had in feeling a great sense of awareness was when I saw the ballet version of Onegin. The symphony playing Tchaikovsky, the curtains slowly went up an traces of lighting with the stage design slowly being exposed was an emotionally intense experience. I felt this deep sense of sorrow mixed in with excitement and for some odd reason it put me in touch with my mortality and the fact that one day I would no longer be able to experience life's art forms. I was so immersed in the theatrics it took me away. It was this profound mixture of sadness and awareness of being so alive, unlike anything I had experienced in a long time. Though I had been to the ballet many times, I have an all new appreciation for the darker theatrics because of that one experience.
