Here comes the bride...

Recommended Posts

I don't want bottle openers, esp. since most of the people at the wedding have no use for them since they don't drink alcohol.

I like the idea of chocolates in the shape of a slipper or something, we were thinking chocolates to begin with. And yes I am having a fairy tale wedding theme as dumb as some may think that is.

Who thinks it's dumb?

They aren't neccessary, however many of our guests are traveling far to be at our wedding so they would probably appreciate some kind of favor.

I like the glass photo coaster, that's something everyone may enjoy.

They're traveling to attend your wedding, not for a party favor.

That's an idea. I guess I just cringe at the thought of people putting their drinks on your face.

:lmao:

And wow, on that website! Who knew?

indeed, i'd rather get a slightly better meal and go without the dumb party favours. i think they are stupid and a waste of money.
I've yet to meet a man who really cares about them. Half the time, party favours get left on the table.

Think about it this way, if you're on a budget, you have to put these favours together. I recall helping my g/f do this, for a wedding of over 600 people. She wasn't on a budget but wanted to give it a personal touch, so we spent endless nights until the wee hours of the morning, doing this. What a pain and a waste!

My dad says the same thing that something little and simple would probably be best.

times are tough, how about a small satchel of coupons to like Burger King, Office Depot, Bed Bath & Beyond?? :lmao:

I'd say MORE than half the time, unless it's something edible and yummy.

Like alpha said, if you're on a budget, it's best to put the favor money to better use - like the meal itself.

You know what? I'm beginning to agree that you should forego the party favors.

Instead I thought of a great idea! Why not get rid of the boring, common round tables and chairs and dais, etc. and have everyone eat in their own little carriage (without the horses of course.) Each carriage would hold 4 people and you can put a table in the middle. So it would be two people on each cushioned seat...like banquette seating.

I'm sure you can rent some of those carriages and forget the party favors. Who would ever forget eating in their own private carriage?

indeed, or upgrade to a premium liquor bar for before dinner drinks and regular bar for after dinner drinks cause by then they are hammered anyways and can't tell the difference between good vodka (absolut) and regular vodka (smirnoffs) :lmao:

Don't forget the decorative mice. Jaq and Gus Gus don't want to be left out!

I'd agree with you, but the groom's side of the family doesn't drink.

Uhm...did you not read the thread? They all don't drink for the most part. They wouldn't know the difference between Absolut and Absolutely.

Are you poking fun at this? This is serious you know. Someone's wedding is not something to be made fun. Sheesh...some people.!

Yep.. make it yummy... I remember a wedding where the bride and groom had buckets of Milky Way bars on each of the tables for the guests to eat during the reception...

Of course they met over the purchase of a Milky Way bar so it did have some significance..

They also toasted with Chocolate Milk...

Yeah I know, I pitch mine. I do like the hershey kiss idea or something edible. I guess the glass slipper idea wouldn't be something that a guy would like.

Your father is like any other man, pragmatic when it comes to fru-fru! ;)

I'd say MORE than half the time, unless it's something edible and yummy.
Which is usually eaten that night, wrappers strewn all over the table.

Like alpha said, if you're on a budget, it's best to put the favor money to better use - like the meal itself.
Yup, do that or if you want to do it, due to the traditional nature of it, do something simple without a lot of work. It will lower your stress level, of one less thing to worry about, since not only do you have to put them together, someone also has to put them on the tables...just right!

As previously mentioned, we're not doing them at all. We're not even having placecards so that people can sit where they want to. I want people to have fun and relax. Of course the Momzillas were totally aghast, where this became a point of contention, to an extent. They're back in line now!

I think the more relevant question is "were they 12 when they got married?"

Well, the chairs and tables come with the price of the room so we would just be refusing free seating and spending a lot of extra money on that. Cute idea though.

I just like the idea of candy or something inexpensive like that. Everyone likes something sweet!

MindoverMatter

The last wedding I went to, they had tiny versions of the wedding cake for party favours. Wrapped in fancy paper and tied with a nice ribbon..it was cute, edible, had the wedding theme (duh) ... perfect.

ok, that makes sense. And it least you didn't make fun of my idea like some people. Sheesh.

Yeah, true. I didn't even drink at my first wedding. Hmmm, maybe THAT'S why my second wedding was so much more fun. All this time I was thinking it was because of the groom involved.:lmao:

Wow I know! I mean some people hold nothing sacred. It's sad, really.

no, i've just been to a few "sober" weddings and they were a bit on the sedate side...people left early, few danced, no drunken disagreements between family members, etc...

i'm not saying yours will be like that but you may want to encourage people to at least down a few. it'll loosen 'em up and create an atmosphere.
