LonelyVocalist
This may be trite and cliche, but where do you thing humanity went wrong to turn this once beautiful planet into a nasty, grody, ugly, polluted ball of crap? My simple answer? Too much intelligence for us to know what to do with used for all the wrong purposes. Again, this is my personal opinion. All perspectives welcome, even if it's something as extreme as "because we have lost touch with our lord and savior, Jesus Christ" just as long as it doesn't turn into a holy war. Again, this isn't rhetorical, I'm looking for some answers.
Datura
Humans as a whole are selfish and will do anything to make their lives more comfortable even if that means maiming, killing, destroying, stealing, etc. Many people don't think, they just DO. They don't pay attention to the possible repercussions of their actions. Money has a lot to do with it too.
ThumbingMyWay
"The world has enough hate in it already, why make more?" - Prince "GREEN DISEASE: Theft and hoarding of wealth at the expense and disregard of the livelihood and wellbeing of the masses will result in a complete and total loss of compassion for any other living being and will blacken your heart" - PJ Jeremiah 17:9 “the heart is more deceitful than all else” and it will ALWAYS pursue that which feels right at the moment money money money.....MONEY!!!!! I believe we have moved into a "I got mine" society. People are more concern for wants than they are for needs. ...we are basically selfish and we just dont help and give to others like we can or should...
quankanne
yep – we focus on self, rather than other. Even Jesus told us that the 10 Commandments boiled down to this: Love God, and love one another. Notice there's no "me" involved in that statement, but "other"? when we lose respect for others, we treat them as lesser and we find it easier to do so. It's only when we put them first that our world around us starts being a better place, one person at a time.
ThumbingMyWay
one person at a time. god states we should give our gifts in private and not boast to the world because he sees all things we do in private. but I feel like sharing one of my ways to help...one person at a time. I was selling a bike on craigslist...cheap $25. I got an email from a single dad that wanted a bike so he could ride with his son. He said he could pay for it for 2 weeks and asked if I could hold it for him. I got to thinking, man $25 is not that big a deal...but to him it was. I knew the bike need some new brakes...and I only paid $16 for the bike, put on new grips...so my cost is like $26, so I wanted $25 to recoup.... but after thinking about this....the $25 wasnt something I needed. But this bike was something HE needed to enjoy time with this son. SO I told him he could have it for FREE. He didnt belive me at first, but I said, yes this is for real. He couldnt believe it....and I gave it to him. Another time I found a daily planner laying the road. I picked it up and called the name on the business card. The man was estatic that I found his planner. I then made arrangements to meet him to give it back to him. he tryed to offer me money and I wouldnt take it.... BUT, I did tell BOTH of these people the way you can repay me is by doing this: "The next time you see an opportunity to help another person, particularly someone you dont know...think of me and what I did for you, them help them in anyway you can....then when they try to pay you...tell them to help another, just as you did for them..." hmm...sounds like that movie, Pay it Forward.....but I think it works.... just doing my part...one person at a time.... Lovelybird
Humanitism is like an mother who spoil her kids with no limites, whatever he asks, she says "poor kid, he wants that, how can I don't give him" (sympathy for evil things), he asked for a candy, she gave him, he wanted a toy that neighbor boy has, she stole that for him, he wanted his mother do anything for him, and his mother always encouraged him for anything he did (sympathy for evil practices). When he grew up, went to jail, and sentensed death penalty. That is what humanitism does. If one loves their children, they discipline them. This is love of God
NoIDidn't
Where did we go wrong? Greed, selfishness, and ignorance. I am convinced that one of the often partially quoted but not truly understood or internalized scriptures is Hosea 4:6 which states my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge". I think this can be applied to more than just religious thought, but to just about everything that we do. I am reminded of learning in school about an insect that started to disappear in Britain at the start of the Industrial Revolution. The insect camoflaged nicely with the trees before the trees became covered in soot, but once the trees were no longer brown/green the bugs were easily picked off by birds. It created a bird population problem, among other imbalances in nature for a time. An unforseeable event, for sure, but it was created out of ignorance.
Enema
Bear with me, this gets a little sci-fi. There's a theory that life across the universe come in orders. I may be off on the accuracy of these classifications, but you'll get the picture: 5th Order - The planet has life. 4th Order - The planet has conscious life, with intelligence 3rd Order - The planet has intelligent life that can reach into its own Solar System 2nd Order - The planet has intelligent life that can reach across its own Galaxy 1st Order - The planet has intelligent life that can traverse the Universe One aspect of the theory suggests that before life can reach the 2nd Order and the ability to colonize other planets, a world event happens that wipes out the life. It could take the form of: - Advanced weapons during a war - Natural disaster (meteors, virus etc) - Pollution - Expended natural resources It's suggested that this is a cycle that occurs for every planet that has had life develop. So, did we go wrong? Sure. Could we have avoided it? Probably not.
Rooster_DAR
It's all about survival. Humans, like any other organism, are perpetual in regards to survival. Our instinct to survive drives us to be one up on our competition. Selfishness and survival are very closely bonded, it's everywhere in nature. With that said, humans can be smart enough to at least have a chance to overcome this mindset; But the question is can we? We have gotten to the point where our social skills have allowed us to survive up to this point, so it's not out of the question. I think if we are going to have a chance at surviving ourselves, we need to all be on the same page so to speak. Religion is one big obstacle standing in the way. As long as people hold on to core beliefs that are archaic, we don't stand a chance. Science IMO is probably the best chance we have at this point, but again we have so many religions against science that probability seems minimal. Cheers!
NoIDidn't
So, did we go wrong? Sure. Could we have avoided it? Probably not. Agreed. The sci-fi part was a little too spacey for me because its written by US about fictional places and events. I LOVE sci-fi too, but its really nothing more than fantasy, to me anyway. Moai
“Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth” (Gen. 1:28) It starts right here. This passage suggests that humans are somehow separate from the rest of Nature, and that Nature is something to be subdued or tamed. Not only that, everything on Earth belongs to us, to do with what we will. Not only that, we don't have to do anything about cleaning it up because Jesus is coming soon and HE is going to fix it! Revelation 11:18 "And the nations were angry, and your wrath has come, and the time for the dead to be judged, and the time of reward for your servants, the prophets, and for the saints, and for those in whom is the fear of your name, small and great, and the time of destruction for those who made the earth unclean." Type "Global Warming" and "Jesus" into a Google search. here are literally thousands of websites that tell believers that the Bible says global warming is impossible, and not to worry. We got to where we are because of short-sighted, superstitious and religious thinking, and we will get out of it by using science and technology.
dunstable
...where do you thing humanity went wrong to turn this once beautiful planet into a nasty, grody, ugly, polluted ball of crap? I don't think humanity has recently gone wrong but rather than humanity has always been very imperfect. We just have the technology now to wreak devastation on the planet. Humanity is still on its learning curve. I just hope it can learn fast enough.
