Recommended Posts

I am a 31 yr. old mother of two girls my youngest is 20 months old. I have recently joined a gym and just started the Special K challenge it's really hard because I want to eat junk food mostly at night, I am not overweight I just need to lose 13 lbs. I am 5 feet and 127 lbs. and need to lose my baby fat it's gross, people keep asking me if I am pregnant again. My Goal is to get into bikini body shape, so does anyone have any advice for me? Is there anything else I can do to lose this weight? I have been drinking alot of water. How many does should I workout? I do two days a week that's the only time I can get to the gym. Is that good? Does anyone have any advice for me?

Try to find more time to exercise. 3 times a week is ideal. Also junk food at night is an absolute no. I easily gained around 10 pounds from eating snacks at night close to bedtime and lost 10 pounds when I stopped doing that.

10-15 lbs on your frame will come off pretty quick with any South Beach type diet , no carbs and daily exercises. Do cardio at the gym and crunches at home. The diet makes me lose the weight within 14 days, but it CAN go right back on. The thing is, when I lose it in spring in motivates me to keep it up for summer. Like a quick start.

Cereal's and breads are not good for you if you're trying to lose weight.

That looks to be breakfast/lunch every day on the Special K diet. http://www.specialk.com.au/TwoWeekChallenge/EatingPlanWeek1.aspx

I'd avoid any diet program released by a company that includes their product in the daily menu.

i think the best diet is the one you posted about once, some time ago...the one where you said something to the effect of:

want to eat that chocolate bar? all right. hold it in your hand and stand completely naked in front of the mirror, and then see if you still want to eat it.

it works, i swear.

Hey,

i was 5-11 and weighing close to 230 lbs.

in 4 months im down to 185 and Most of it muscle now. I went from like 33% Body fat to about 10%

To be honest the best way to loose weight and keep it off is to increase your metabolism. I do not recommending diets because they will only work while your aggressively following them. Your starving your body of certain foods, so your body goes into a state of panic where it will want to store specific foods for later(FAT).

Build muscle is probably one of the best ways to loose fat and increase your metabolism. Muscle burns more calories and burns calories in a rest state. Dont be afraid to left weights, your wont look like those barbarian women unless your actively trying for it.

Watch what you eat.. Do not Eat White carbs unless you have too. I still eat white rice about 3 - 4 times a week cause i just love it. But switch to whole wheat everything , bread, pasta, rice, and try to eat sweet potatoes vs. regular. The bleached white stuff your body pretty much stores it as fat if your don't burn it off immediately, where brown contains more nutrients and your body has to work harder to digest.

Eat more often, Eat more smaller meals a day. You will feel your metabolism speeding up in no time. You will be constantly hungry, which is a good thing.

I have quite eating anything processed. Go cave man, eat all natural.

Exercise as much as you can. I go 4 times a week about 1 hour each visit. I run 1 mile and do about 50 minutes on weights.

One of the biggest ones for me was i do not drink anything but water and milk now. It is amazing how much sugar the average person intake in drinks alone in a day.

Anyways good luck, Oh and one more thing , if you feel like the fat is getting softer and looser that is another good thing, i means your about to loose a good chunk of it so don't let that discourage you.

i eat a bowl of of special K every night around midnight with 2% milk, if you have increased your metabolism this is no big. Cereal has very little calories compared to a lot of other junk. A bowl of special k is around 120 calories and is really nothing for the amount of filling it gives you. If your Hungry Eat, if you deny your body when it tells you its hungry you are essentially slowing down your metabolism, and Cereal is not a bad choice, only thing i can think of that would be better is a vegetable snack.

I am 35 so i am no spring chicken, you can effectively speed up your metabolism if you do it properly.

There are the same # of calories in Special K or any cereal as a Mars Bar (gram for gram).

What really matters is how those calories are made up:

In a Mars Bar, it's 55% sugar carbs 17% fat.

In Special K, it's 75% normal carbs.

This is not ideal because your body will store excess carbs as fat. An ideal meal is made up mostly of protein because your body has a really rough time trying to break protein down to store as fat.

Ideally, a protein shake at night is perfect and tons better than any cereal.

carbs is carbs, You do have a point about protein vs other carbs, however unless your actually burning off the carbs your still getting fat doesn't matter what you eat. A low carb protein shake with milk is at least the equivalent to a bowl of cereal in calories, and less umm.. Stomach aggravation. Lol.

A bowl of cereal contains a lot of nutrients and is considered a whole fiber so it is good for your body, a good carb if you will.

Protein shakes are best taken after a work out in my opinion, it is when your body needs the protein boost to build and recover muscles along with the carbs.

carbs is carbs,

No, there are many different types of carbs and they affect your body in different ways.

A low carb protein shake with milk is at least the equivalent to a bowl of cereal in calories....

Equal in calories, but made up of mostly protein. Much better for you than a meal made up of mostly carbs.

A bowl of cereal contains a lot of nutrients and is considered a whole fiber so it is good for your body, a good carb if you will.

But wait... isn't "a carb a carb"? Here you seem to be supporting my point, that some carbs are different.

Regardless of what type of carbs you eat, protein beats any of them.

You're certainly entitled to an opinion.

Good luck with your continued progress, 10% bodyfat on a woman at 185lbs is really unbelievable! :)

  • 2 weeks later...

I have lost a lot of weight, and there is people dabating about the carbs. I have read books and have heard from a physician that there are bad carbs. I have a thread also called "running" and am having a terrible time losing my belly fat. I even get depressed about it because I work out very hard and lift weights, I guess its a timely process. I drink btw 64 and 128 oz of water a day, as it detoxifies your body, anytime I have lost weight it does come off faster if I am actually monitering how much water I am consuming. All the advice on here is great advice. I do agree with changing white carbs to brown as it has made a difference in my diet and has changed my body, except the dreaded stomach has gone down. but how to get rid of that thing is beyond me, if anyone on here can help with that can you please post somthing to my "Running" thread. A positive strong mindset is a definite must.:D

Be happy and healthy everyone!!

bikini body shape and junk food don't go together! Cardio! Weight Resistance! Diet! I'm in the process of dropping lbs, and I'm down almost 20lbs http://www.ehow.com/how_5222491_lose-lbs-fast.html
