So I'm just trying to get the concept of a LDR (excuse my ignorance), but typically, what is the best way, for, say, a man, to approach a woman about the potential of doing a long-distance relationship, and in what time frame is best to pursue it?

Without knowing any of the details, it's hard to say. If they know each other and are already dating, and one must move out of the area, then at some point they will need to discuss their options.

If you are talking about a couple who know each other online but have never met, it may happen more slowly, depending on the situation.

I would need more information before I form any further thoughts.

Dirty talk has worked well for me.

I am more or less talking in general. I am though talking to someone online who lives several hundred miles (I'm in San Diego) for a few days. And while it's obviously WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too early to really gauge anything, we've clicked so far when we have talked.

But for discussion's sake, I'm talking in general. Or how did you approach such an idea?

I'm not sure there is a 'general' way to approach a potential LDR. I would think all cases are different.

It's a bit like saying when is the best time to ask somebody you're dating (in person) if they a want an exclusive relationship. It really depends on the people and the situation.

I've never done the online dating thing but I would imagine you reach a point where you think there might be something special between you and you talk about it. When you're both ready you can meet up and decide if it's worth pursuing.

Hope it works out for you.

Good luck figuring it out! I waited to ask until "I love you" had been said by both and he mentioned doing future things together like visiting each other's families and going on vacation together. (live on different continents)

He wasn't interested in dating.
