Do you think we're (humans) meant to be monogamous?

Recommended Posts

That's fine, but to ignore the instinctive portion of our humanity is a mistake as well. We are driven by instinct, and we also have other faculties to utilize. It's good to note that marketing and other human behavior experts are adept at leveraging 'instinctive' reactions in humans.

We are more instinct driven, and then we rationalize it later, than we realize.

OMG when did I "ignore" it? All I said was that I did not buy the

argument that we are VICTIMS of it and that certain behaviors

are out of our control, like a reflex...

Every instinct that we have that leads to unwelcome, unadmirable,

or even illegal behaviors is still our responsibility. That's all...

Jesus, when did I say - please tell me, that humans were void of

instincts???

The difference is that I recognize that men aren't immune to biology anymore then women are.

Now you're just making crap up AND you're off topic.

Who said it had anything to do with this thread.

Again, can you stay on topic at all?

I said it had to do with your own agenda.

Then start a thread about my supposed agenda please.

And I find irony in a person that just above told me to stop thinking about myself but defends his own needs based on "subconscious influences".

Again, start a thread.

Who cares about changing history. The points that have been illustrated to you that just because things might have been true in the past, it wasn't all for biological reasoning ....

At least this is tangentially on topic. It doesn't matter WHY it worked. It could be that magic blue and ebony space aliens only let children conceived in December survive. Given that constraint a specific set of procreative strategies would be more successful than others.

and doesn't hold true the same ways in the present.

And that's not important except PERHAPS for humans in the distant FUTURE. For instance, perhaps the ability to aggressively store calories when food is plentiful is NOT a great trait (procreatively) when food is always plentiful. If not, then that trait would tend to get selected out over time. Food being plentiful NOW will not make the genes that exist now and that were formed in harder and leaner times suddenly adapt.

While you're out trying to form pair bonds the rest of us will work on forming relationships. And we both know you don't think i hate men. :)

Baby, you said you wouldn't kiss and tell.

OMG!

Where did *I* say you said that? Calm down, I never said you said ANYTHING.

Clv, you make this big deal about not staying on topic but I don't think right now your making much sense to most of the people here. Diversions and tangents are easy to see through.

You can always either start a new thread or dispute the parts above where I commented on the things you said that were actually on topic, if you think I'm wrong and you can prove it.

How 'bout you start your own thread where you use tangents to throw the conversation off and then blame the other poster?

You did this to another thread. I'm watching you. LOL.

Hey clv, my instinct-driven friend who uses some lame biology stuff to justify his inability to behave better than just an animal....let me ask you this ...

Suppose you feel the overwhelming need to evacuate your bowels. Of course, this is strictly a physical phenomenon, driven by nerve endings in the colon and associated muscular responses. No emotion is required in this process. Do you just void on the spot in the checkout aisle at WalMart? Or, perhaps, try to CONTROL YOURSELF and make it to a restroom?

I hope you got the analogy.

Have a great day, my instinct-driven mammal friend.

If course the guys who like recreational sex with younger women are not NOW contributing to the species in a meaningful way. That's not the point. The point is that the behaviors they and their sweet young things are engaged in exist because they were useful historically.

I hate to burst your bubble old boy, but not all behaviors exist because they were useful historically.

As far as the old man/young woman hookup, many of these young women just want to live the lifestyle that a wealthy (yes, men without money don't score too well with the younger women) man can give them. Many of them don't want and don't have children in these relationships.

Sorry to the OP for going off topic again.

Um, what? Are you losing track of things or what? Where did I try to justify anything? I said that people who justify infidelity this way are grasping at straws.

True, some are based on survival ... oh wait, you have to survive a while to procreate. Instinctive behaviors exist overwhelmingly because they are useful in enabling, directly or indirectly, a species to procreate successfully.
