dobler33 Posted June 17, 2009 Share Posted June 17, 2009 dude, i think that we're all getting a bad rap on here because of FnB. i've read a few of these threads here and the conversation seems to be lively and respectful until he comes in and starts bleating the weirdest, crabbiest, most ignorant sh*t imaginable, which sets everyone into an uproar and skews the argument into something totally unuseful. can we just get rid of him instead of having the mods close down perfectly reasonable threads? he is disrespectful, ill-(or un-)informed and incindiary. even people who start out agreeing with him end up baffled. In principle I agree with you but the unfortunate thing is that there are millions of people like him out there. That just life... But not everyone is like this. Even as a staunch atheist I find quankanne ability to reflect on spirituality to be fascinating. that's what i'm saying! the conversation is interesting and enlightening until someone like him comes on and starts being a blinkered weenie, throwing out invective and hearing absolutely nothing. i enjoy talking about the views of people who disagree with me. i like wrangling with a juicy intellect. people like that just go immediately to some kind of professor poopypants pouty nonsense and stop all exchange. Atheists by definition reject Islam as well, and there are many books written by atheists that do just that. Sam Harris' books leap to mind. There is even a Skeptics Annotated Koran. Living in a culture dominated by Christianity and visiting English language boards, it makes sense that most of the discussions about the rationality of religious belief centers around that religion, but it does not follow that Christianity is the only religion atheists reject, or are capable of rejecting based on their book. It just doesn't come up as often. While it might make Christians feel good to be "singled out" for "persecution"--something at which Christians excel--the fact is that they aren't. Christians thinking that should get out more. For anyone interested, there are some very interesting threads regarding Islam on the WWGHA boards. There is a resident Fundamentalist Muslim that posts "proofs" that the koran is true that are entertaining and at times very funny. I totally agree and understand. I find it hard to believe that with a board that spans as many countries as LS, though, that we don't have any resident Muslims here. Maybe they are just smart enough to stay out of this forum, for MANY reasons, not just the lively convos we have. LOL. Link to post Share on other sites

Given that this is on the main a board for relationship advice and most people are from countries where women are liberated, perhaps this site is banned or filtered. On the other boards I mentioned, one of the Muslim posters emigrated here, and is planning on going back to the Middle East to continue the Jihad for The One True Path. On the other boards I mentioned, one of the Muslim posters emigrated here, and is planning on going back to the Middle East to continue the Jihad for The One True Path. I agree that this is mostly a board for relationship issues, but it doesn't follow that countries where women are liberated don't have any Muslim citizens. France comes to mind. Regarding the poster that's going back to the Middle East, is it possible that they were using the word jihad the same way we use the word war in the phrase "war on drugs", or "war on [plug in your cause here]"? I've had Muslim friends tell me that we in the States have been conditioned to over respond to the word war by our media when we use it in much the same way. Link to post Share on other sites
